I live in Hickory, North Carolina, am a hobby homesteader, a flyer of many things, and that kind of stuff.
The boat ride took us through a series of life-size dioramas, some including animated mannequins. The whole site was still very ornate and beautiful, but also very different from the ancient temples that we had seen already, and would soon see many more of.

The girls are interested in making things and Felicia especially is interested in fiber arts, so the textile section was a big hit.

I also noticed that in the Humayun's Tomb complex, there was a special tomb labeled the Barber's tomb. I thought this was a tribute to the Emperor's hair cutting guy, but reading more indicates this might not be the case. It is called the Barber's tomb, but the remains interred there aren't clear.

Our tour guide convinced the girls to take this picture together, and I'm glad she did! The Mughals would travel down to this area in the winter, when it was cold in their homeland that we now call Afghanistan. We would see several more of their sites on our trip, because they loved building!

To the left in this picture you can see an ancient iron pillar which has Sanskrit writing from the fourth century. Many centuries later, this complex was expanded by folks who travelled down from modern-day Afghanistan in the 1200s.

But this special site has been special to a lot of people. There was a very old Hindu temple on the same grounds, which was decorated with idols which had been removed later by Muslims who opposed their display.

If he is any indication of their capabilities, they are doing an amazing job. We really appreciated so much about his style and values.

All of us had a great time rolling out dough for Roti. The kitchen has a few employees to help keep the trains on the track, but most of the folks there are volunteers. We were honored that they let us help too.

These Muslim buildings date to the 15th century. Since they display no human or animal idol imagery, they derive their beauty from symmetric geometric patterns and Quranic calligraphy. The buildings include tombs and a mosque, and the structures are situated with relevance to the location of Mecca.
