I mean he's gotta be cooked. Either that or the Orioles' GM is cooked 😂

So maybe they can somewhat help mask the inevitable age-related decline, better than most other teams can.
January 20, 2025 at 2:14 PM
Yep, bingo. I do think part of it too though is they excel at helping players become the best version of themselves, even if declining. Like how we acquired an aging Matt Kemp, made him pretty good for one year, then traded him .. and he reverted back to declining.

This is hilarious, lol

The 2020 WS "not counting" was always a weird argument to me. The Dodgers have always made the playoffs very easily, the issue has been winning short series. The 2020 playoffs were the longest the MLB has ever seen, and they triumphed. Seems it should count for more, not less, if anything.

Lol, yeah. These people need to put themselves in Sasaki's shoes - wouldn't you want to join one of the best teams in the game and play alongside a few of your good friends, both of whom are stars in your country? Or would you rather go to an organization heading south to be "the man"? lol.

And if he does pick the Dodgers, I’d admittedly feel pretty bad for Blue Jays fans, after having basically the exact same scenario play out in two consecutive offseasons, lol
January 17, 2025 at 6:37 PM
1/17 was yesterday, but it’s possible he told them .. and they promptly pulled the trigger on a deal to secure IFA, and the official confirmation is coming soon. But I agree - I would be very surprised to see him pick the Blue Jays too
January 17, 2025 at 6:36 PM
I think perhaps the concern is that the Blue Jays would only agree to this kind of deal if Sasaki has already agreed to sign. There are also the rumors from the Japanese media that he decided on 1/17 (Japan time). But who knows, we'll see soon ..

The thing I really like about the Dodgers is they treat their long-term players really well. CT3 would have probably been released by a number of teams by now. Dodgers will probably just IL him off and on throughout the year if he looks terrible, enabling him to stick around and complete his deal
January 9, 2025 at 4:05 AM
Obviously there is a clear, distant third in this conversation, though 😂
January 9, 2025 at 3:36 AM
Gotcha. I think Outman might have a bit more value than Rojas, in that he's an above average defensive CF who would give 5 years of team control, even if struggles enormously with contact. Rojas provides only one year of control. He had a solid offensive year last year, but that's not his norm
January 9, 2025 at 3:36 AM
Sasaki would be signed on an MILB deal though as per the rules. They have 5 guys who will be put on the 60-man IL, so the situation will resolve itself after spring training starts.
January 9, 2025 at 3:24 AM
I kind of doubt they'll release him. He has been with his team for a long time, and they seem to be very good about treating their long-term players well. Think he may bounce back and forth between the IL, etc .. but this will be his last year here.

But mainly my idea is driven by the concept of this generating even more revenue for the Guggenheim group, more than other options that exist
January 7, 2025 at 2:13 AM
The fact that Hyeseong has options and HaSeong isn’t returning until May/June makes this more of a possibility, IMO
January 7, 2025 at 2:13 AM
I don’t disagree, but Hyeseong is an unproven commodity and may not turn out to be any good. Worst case scenario is you have too many good players. It seems likely though that by the time HaSeong is healthy, someone else will be hurt, avoiding any roster crunch issues
January 7, 2025 at 2:12 AM
HaSeong very good defensively, helps strengthen the team, with Betts shifting to 2B. Also, the Guggenheim group recognizes the value of an international brand, and I imagine having two very good Korean players helps capture that market and generates more revenue
January 7, 2025 at 2:04 AM
I do. I think we could still sign Ha-Seong Kim. He’ll be out until May/June anyway. Can play Rojas and the other Kim at SS until then
January 7, 2025 at 1:59 AM
You were correct, he was ultimately not worth too much. An interesting prospect and a draft pick. We'll see what that amounts to.
January 6, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Writing was on the wall. Mookie isn't a SS, which means he needs to play 2B. Lux, unfortunately, never showed he could handle SS. Had to move on.
January 6, 2025 at 11:02 PM
Correct, my friend. :)
January 6, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Absolutely. Could have a rotation of Snell/Glasnow/Yamamoto/Sasaki/Flaherty/Ohtani. Can always trade May/Gonsolin or shift to pen. Would rather have as many good SPs as possible
January 5, 2025 at 5:38 PM
With how stacked our lineup at all other spots, I think the FO is willing to have a mediocre to subpar offensive SS (Rojas, maybe Kim) if it means superior infield defense. Could see Kim and Rojas platooning there, with Edman as a fallback in case both are awful offensively
