Aussie Animator and Animation Fan. (He/Him). Likes: Movies, TV Shows, Comic Books, Physical Media, and Animals. Dislikes: Donald Trump. I would say I joined Blue Sky 'cause Elon ruined Twitter... but that would imply Twitter was any good to begin with
Fun-Fact: A few years ago I wrote into Stu's Show and asked Jerry Beck about the Whoopi Goldberg intros on the Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry DVDs and he had a pretty interesting story of how they came about:

(Note: I edited this down and sped it up by 5% so it would fit in a BlueSky post)

It took forever (and a lot of money), but I was able to get all the animation related Walt Disney Treasures DVDs - and I've gotten a few more live-action ones since then.

I'm very lucky to live near a DVD specialty shop that can order these in and I can pay via layby WITHOUT any interest.

Fun-Fact: Shortly after this cartoon won the Oscar in 1950 - Walt Disney sent Chuck Jones a letter congratulating him:

You know something @marzgurl.com this reminds me of a comment I saw on @agramuglia.bsky.social video on critics vs groups grifters… and it just made me laugh.

Like don’t get me wrong Doug Walker is responsible for A LOT OF SHIT… but I don’t think this is one of them:

In Oct 1933 he wrote an article for the Overland Monthly entitled ‘The Cartoon’s Contribution to Children’, where he demonstrated some of his political naivete.

Also in regards to the Jewish peddler scene in Three Little Pigs…

As distasteful as it was - Jewish stereotypes were VERY common in cartoons during the early 30s (even from studios run and populated by Jewish men) and were by no means exclusive to Walt.

Here’s some non-Disney examples:

It also features a cameo from Joe Biden:

One of my favourite Betty Boop cartoons is Betty Boop for President (1932), in which Betty wins the 1932 election.

That's right, a cartoon from 1932 depicted a female President of the United States... something that over 90 years later, still hasn't happened yet.

@crimsonmayhem.bsky.social Yup Pat Sullivan was pretty loathsome... however you might want to put quotation marks around the word "creator".

The bulk of the credit for Felix the Cat's creation should go to Otto Messmer.

Stan Lee: Hey Jack in the next issue of Fantastic Four can you have them fight God or something?

Frankly it looked better on the Spotlight Collection DVD (even though it was a crappy 1980s Turner print).

When it comes to The Milky Waif on the Golden Collection.

The GOOD NEWS like ALL the cartoons on this set it's COMPLETELY UNCUT.

BAD NEWS, It looks like this:

No it was more of a situation of the George Eastman house (where the MGM materials are stored) sent over the wrong prints for 12 cartoons: MetroColor Prints from the 1960s, and they look washed out.

The rest of the cartoons on that set look GREAT though, and all the cartoons are uncut.

Here's the restored HD version from the Golden Collection: Vol. 1 Blu-Ray.

Then for over 10 years we got NO T&J releases until earlier this year when WAC released the CinemaScope Collection.

It's the same transfers of the Scope shorts from the Spotlight Collections, but FINALLY presents Pup on a Picnic in it's correct aspect ratio. This is by default the best T&J release

The prints for Volume 2 were later made available digitally, this time only two cartoons were sourced from horrible MetroColor prints: Heavenly Puss and Jerry's Diary.

The rest were all sourced from CRI and looked good for the most part... but did have some dodgy colour grading.

Then there was the aborted Vol. 2... which the WB legal department ONCE AGAIN pulled the cartoons Mouse Cleaning and Casanova Cat, causing fan outrage and the set to ultimately be cancelled.
July 11, 2025 at 2:27 AM
But 10 or so cartoons were sourced from crappy MetroColor prints and looked AWFUL... EVEN WORSE THAN THE TURNER PRINTS!
July 11, 2025 at 2:27 AM
The Golden Collection Blu-Rays were going in the right direction... having 27 of the 37 cartoons BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED and looking ABSOLUTLEY GEORGEOUS with many of bonus material from the Spotlight Collections being ported over...
