I run a charity with my wife (One And All Aid), which funds education for Yezidis, following the 2014 genocide. In my spare time I fish and write. Two fishing books have been published, and my new book is a comedy adventure novel, Criminal Bycatch.
Farage's history of racist comments shows that he has been a vile bigot for most of his life; unlike, say, Robert Jenrick. He seems to be a recent convert, someone who has decided being odious is a way to gain political advantage.

Surprising to me that Farage doesn't wear this as a badge of pride.

"It's a smear" is better than the alternative: "It's twenty-odd smears."

Our population is skewed towards old people like me, most economically inactive. Most immigrants are of working age, they can support the inverted pyramid.
The alternative is to keep migrants out, gutting the NHS & social care. Then folk of my age will die off quickly & restore generational balance.

If Badenoch had a better memory she'd remember how thick she is. Her amnesia lets her wake up every morning and think she's a genius.
Liz Truss is much the same.

All thye above, & I'd add Joe Boyd, his newish book (And The Roots Of Rhythm Remain) is a delight; as was White Bicycles.

Exactly. "It's my word against his; and his; and his; and his .."

I'd say it's a fair cop this time.

And when you buy from an independent:
1 Probably they are paying their help decently and paying their taxes.
2 Your book won't come in a cardboard box that killed a forest.
3 You get to deal with people who like and understand books and readers.

Oh, the old "it's not you, it's the other ones we're against" line? I've heard this a few times when these racists come out with their shite in front of my (white) immigrant wife and I call them out.

I do too, and they always seem surprised, as if we should be glad they're the other kind of bigots. Bigotry, in my book, is binary.

Well said, immigration benefits the UK economically and culturally.
I'm married to an immigrant, but she happens to be white. Farage fans are keen to tell her they like immigrants of her type; which means their anti-migrant rhetoric is down to nothing but racism.

From the ITV interview, I think the bar's even lower. "Direct & intentional" racial abuse. So if it just slipped out by accident, he thinks he's in the clear.

W. Churchill, "It is a joke in Britain to say that the War Office is always preparing for the last war."

This seems true of most regulators. I'm a technophobe, so no opinion about algorithms. But financial institution regulation looks well equipped to make sure 2008 doesn't repeat itself.

I run a shop helping the displaced. I always tried to be diplomatic. Then a man said he wouldn't spend money on "darkies."
I told his wife, "You can come in, & your dog, but yonder fuckwit (husband) stays outside."
Cue cheering from students at the door, who came in & spent like drunken sailors.
