you can go back over decades and tariffs are the one policy issue that Trump has consistent opinions about, based on a coherent (stupid, but coherent) theory that a nation's balance of trade is its balance sheet and it is strong when the balance is positive
What people fail to understand about Trump is that all his Belief is fully committed to tariffs. They think that because normal people believe many things and Trump doesn’t believe in anything else, he does not believe in tariffs. This is wrong. Popes and imams have less faith than him.
