I know this may look like an ordinary bend in a suburban Belfast road; it's anything but.

At this time of year as you round this bend on your way home heading west, you can be met with the most glorious view of the golden sun, setting in a peachy sky that fades to deep blue.

It's magnificent.

Stopped getting nails done this year but felt festive yesterday. So now they look like red wine.

I can't watch this because, having grown up against a backdrop of a constant threat of violence, I know the long-term impact on the collective mental health of a community. You get on with your life, but it's not normal.

That this is taking place on such a large scale there is just unthinkable.
Thoughts and Prayers is an HBO documentary about “the impact of the $3 billion active shooter preparedness industry on schools and communities across America”. It’s completely sickening that we choose to live this way in America. [kottke.org]

I am holding out so far; 3 more weeks.

I attended a talk during the week about careers in the film industry, and the audience (around a hundred 15/16 yo) was asked views on ai.
Anyone love it? Couple of hands.
Anyone hate it? About 5 times as many hands.

Hardly robust data, but made me smile.

So one week in 98 Jamie Theakston described Cher as "no spring chicken" and the next week, still at number 1, Kate Thornton comments that she's 2 years older than her mum.
She was 52.

Glad it wouldn't happen now, but wouldn't have happened to a 52 year old man back then.

This is absolutely shameful from @nature.com
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

5am drive to the airport has me up with the birds earlier than usual.

A friend told me that the reason humans find the dawn chorus so reassuring is because it signified for our hunter-gatherer ancestors that night, and danger, had passed for now. Love that.

What the feck is going on in Kerry?!

I want to credit the map-maker/survey owner, but alas they are an anonymous Redditor so I cannot.

Outdoor lights are up.

Youngest son is quoting some arbitrary rules about 1st December to me, but you can't pass up a dry, bright Sunday like that.

Plus whoever climbs the ladder makes the rules round here.

I just kept choosing roads that took my interest. On a volunteering stint in final year at uni I found myself standing at the front of a science classroom in a boys' high school in north Belfast, explaining states of matter.
Felt right.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

This is a really beautiful event that I've attended at St Anne's the past couple of years, to remember my niece Lily.
It's a tough time for the grieving, so this provides welcome peace. I mostly gern throughout, and that's OK.
It's at City Hall this year. www.cruse.org.uk/get-involved...

I have such a clear memory of walking home from school along Rosetta Road in 1989 with my friend Averyl, talking about how blown away we were by this brilliant new song & band. Mani's iconic intro still alters my mood instantly.

Such sad news.

The emergence of this box of photos has reignited discussion in our family group chat about the photograph that my granda brought home from the war, of Mussolini's body hanging in a square in Italy.

I thought I'd imagined it, but siblings confirm they've seen it too.
My aunt has dropped off some old photos today.
Funny how the sight of a single item can instantly transport you back to your childhood.
