Oh the millions in contracts with canvas and Google and synergy and lightspeed and canva and whatever else? Meanwhile my class sizes and limits on paper copies both keep going up? It’s infuriating.

What a ridiculous waste of time and money. We’ve had canvas for a few years now but they “update” it so often that whenever you get comfortable thinking you know how to do something, it’s different and you’re back to square one. And none of the updates are ever better for instruction or learning.

We are both required to keep grades updated at all times on canvas, AND expected to personally reach out to parents of failing students. Isn’t that the point of the consistently updated grades? If the online grade book doesn’t replace the other communications, what’s the value? More work for me.

Every “tool” we are given adds 17 steps to our days but none of the benefits that were sold to schools. I don’t want or need more training from someone who isn’t a teacher but knows how to use a computer. I can both teach AND use computers and I’d rather spend my time teaching.

The idea that what we need or want is more training is just another way of deprofessionalizing/disrespecting teachers. I don’t need “tech experts” to teach dumb little old me how to use their technology. I need them to listen to me when I tell them it’s more work without the assumed benefits.

I wasn’t mad I watched it, but I would agree it felt much more like a basic biography than I was expecting.

Final thought, if they put beef in my Doritos I will fight someone.

In all seriousness, having my Doritos be a slightly more muted orange is not making anyone healthier. It’s all a scam. Eat Doritos if you want to eat Doritos. Eat vegetables if you want to eat vegetables. Eat both, I don’t care, but stop pretending you can make snacks “healthier” with beef tallow.

The harm caused by the choice to give us computers *instead of* books seems to be one that no one in power is willing to acknowledge and reverse.
