Middle school US history teacher, lover of public schools, proud union member, expert in Real Housewives and the extended 90 Day Universe and also I do like some other stuff I just don’t talk about it as much.
I’m so tired of bad weather. The obsession with bringing down Meredith and Lisa is exhausting and based in literally nothing but mean self righteousness. Heather’s head got entirely too big after season 4, and Lisa’s right, she does think she’s Judge Judy.

“If you have a square shaped face you’re a dingbat” - in a different life Mary Cosby could have had a career writing for Seventeen magazine

One time my school law professor spent an entire class making sure we understood that Disney did not care that we were little old public school teachers, they would sue us for every penny we didn’t have if we violated copyright, even if it was due to a misunderstanding of the law.

Anyway.

I wish I was going to the free Jimmy Eat World show in Baltimore tonight but I’m too old and too cold for that on a school night.

I don’t want a personalized podcast. I want a cool local radio DJ who plays the alternative hits and introduces me to new music and occasionally breaks in with the news and traffic.

I was at a meeting yesterday with other teachers and one of the things we discussed was that every piece of technology that gets added makes our jobs harder and more time consuming, but people who work in offices instead of classrooms are positive “technology” is what they should focus on.
The issues teachers told this researcher they needed help with are longstanding problems that have gotten worse. The newer one is tech/AI, which they are struggling with--because it is another enormous task that has been put on their plates by the fad-obsessed.

I know it’s not the point or most important part of…anything…but you all wouldn’t believe me if I told you how many pencils children actually go through at school on a daily basis.

I can’t believe Jen Shah is getting out of prison tomorrow. It feels like we talked about her sentence for longer than she actually ended up serving it.

“You have to explain to her what rage baiting means!”

“You all know I’m not *that* old, right?”

The potato chip companies sucking up to maha by changing their packaging is making me irrationally annoyed. I don’t want all natural hot Cheetos, if I did I wouldn’t be eating hot Cheetos.

I was going to watch this week’s 90 day fiancé episode but then I saw hbo has the Jeff Buckley documentary so I decided to start my day being sad instead of being mad at the people making bad life choices. Anyway I contain multitudes or whatever.

I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about National Board Certification.

I see the RHOBH producers are invested in making sure we see how skinny everyone’s legs are this season.

I have a student this year who exclusively calls me “yo, teach” and it’s literally my favorite thing ever.

Absolutely gross creepiness of the output aside, this assignment is a great example of a thing I don’t understand about the push for AI. Why is using adobe better than kids drawing and designing a book cover by hand? Collaging? Why are we eliminating the creativity and skill aspect of education?
This was just sent to me by an LAUSD parent. A 4th grader was assigned to design a book cover for Pippi Longstocking using Adobe for Education. Here is what the AI tool generated:

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion is weird and dark and the Dunkin product placement is a lot considering they’re famous for drinking sodas that Dunkin does not sell.

I just switched to Apple Music a few weeks ago so my end of year replay is kind of funny, but most importantly it didn’t call me old.

Today I gave my classes a very straight forward reading comprehension assignment. They all thought I was tricking them because it was too easy.

No, my dear students, you’re just learning and getting better at understanding the texts we read.

Furthermore. Stop playing Christmas music in your classroom. I don’t know how to explain to you how unfun it is to be the one Jewish person they know saying no to requests for Christmas music.

Your neighborhood public school grinch here once again with a reminder- if it’s a thing people do to celebrate Christmas, making it a “fun school activity” because it’s not literally religious *still sucks*

The best thing about 2 hour delay days is that you see how kids behave and perform in school when they get to sleep until an appropriate time for their age group.

The worst thing is that the “no change ever to school start times” crowd is uninterested in hearing it.

Texted “stop” to a business that was sending me messages, as one does.

Got a “text back unstop to receive messages again.”

UNSTOP. Unstop.

I can’t.

“You lied in the past, you lied in the present, and you’re probably going to lie again in the future” is so good. The women of RHOP deserve Emmys for screenwriting.

“Ms, are you going to come to our winter concert?”

“Oh I have to check my schedule”

“Schedule? You don’t have kids, you don’t have anything to do.”

😒
