You have to admire a tule fog with this attention to detail. You could draw a precise elevation contour curve on a topographic map by tracing its edges.

Wow, I knew I was enthusiastic about Waymo, but I hadn't realized quite how much! 🙂

I was at a wonderful conference over the weekend, and came home today with all kinds of interesting ideas. Now I've got my cat in my lap and some excellent tequila, and that's nice as well. Life is good.

Welcome to a one minute sample of Autistic Hell. I recorded this at LAX as I waited for a Lyft to pick me up after flying home on Tuesday. If the Christians are right, I will probably spend eternity here. I was in stimming shutdown mode by the end of that first minute.

I didn't even realize that I'd missed my first BlueSky anniversary until another post prompted me to check blueskyscore.com . I hope this omission does not interfere with my newly-discovered path toward becoming an Influencer, a retirement job I would greatly prefer to Walmart greeter.

I'm hanging out on my friends' back deck as the afternoon drifts toward sunset. A Bewick's Wren just started singing to me from a nearby bush.

One of the many pleasures of coding is running across evocative comments in other people's code. Even the big software companies occasionally let a little bit of a programmer's personality slip through. This example is from a class holding constants representing all versions of Android. 1/3

In our accelerating rush toward the Singularity, we have reached the stage of meta-outage alerts. Outage meta-alerts? Meta-outage hyper-alerts? Humanity is not ready for what awaits us.

I had to interrupt an intense programming session to be hypnotized for a while.

On the minus side, my country is in a fascist death spiral from which I will not live long enough to see it recover.

On the plus side, I got my hair done this afternoon, and it's exactly the shade of auburn I wanted.

Let's call it a wash. 🙂🏳️‍⚧️💜

I've always had a peculiar fondness for the visual effect of grazing light on a flat textured surface. When I was a kid, I'd sometimes go outside to watch as the summer afternoon sun slid northward past due west, creating this effect on the white stucco north wall of our house.

That one brings back some fond memories. Even better, there's an Electric Avenue not far from where I live, so I have frequent opportunities to get the song stuck in my head. 🙂🎵

I took this selfie as I was leaving work last Tuesday. It had been a very quiet afternoon, with hardly anyone there, so I got deep into flow for hours, a state I call "code trance". This is what I look like when the software patterns in my head feel more real than the world around me.

I've always had a knack for feeling incoming rain well before it arrives. I grew up where it rained a lot, and spent a lot of time outdoors, so it makes sense.

Just now, inside my apartment with the curtains closed, I suddenly felt that pre-rain sensation. It's 80°F outside. 1/2

I'm at CVS waiting to get three vaccinations -- pneumonia, flu, and COVID. I booked the first two online, but COVID wasn't listed as being available. Then a neighbor told me that our CVS had it for the asking. So I asked, feeling like I was making a back-alley drug deal, and got lucky. 1/3

From @rbreich.bsky.social 's figures, I get 6 years of $2,674 annual bonuses for every employee. That's close enough to the $2,719 given in the post, of course; I'm just curious how this discrepancy happened.

We gave up, and decided to keep our Angora professionally groomed with a close cut that grows out for a few months. We're all happier with this arrangement.
