I am a proud citizen. I do not have my citizenship status on my license b/c I deliberately do not want it to be only noncitizens in an easily-identifiable category from their license. I now carry a different federal proof of citizenship with me all the time, but it's not my license.

As a naturalized citizen, is there a way to check if our citizenship is associated with our driver license? I don’t think it is displayed on CA licenses but I think I put my license number on my passport application.

Another source of citizenship status is DHS's SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) database. The SAVE database has inaccuracies and is also known by election officials to lag updating persons' naturalization status

When a noncitizen receives a drivers license they are issued a card and their citizenship status is noted in their record. When someone naturalizes, states' laws do not require them to update their drivers license citizenship status until they next renew their license, which may not be for years
