I swear, every fifth post on Facebook is someone fundraising for something. I probably need to follow other things or leave the platform altogether, but it begs the question: why are we (lower, middle class) expected to fund these things while the government talks about tax cuts for billionaires?

Watching Idiocracy. They thought it would take until 2330 for the federal government to be purchased. They also still had a Secretary of Education in 2505. They underestimated capitalism greatly.

I am generally not for using AI to create media that could be harmful to someone, but given the parties involved here, I'd let this one slide.
This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

If I understand, they were also investigating a Starlink contract.
USAID was founded by JFK to fight the Kremlin -- by helping countries all over the world, rather than having them fall under Soviet dominance.

The Kremlin has wanted to kill USAID ever since.

Don't fall for anti-USAID propaganda -- it all comes from PUTIN.

DOGE Teen Owns ‘Tesla.Sexy LLC’ and Worked at Startup That Has Hired Convicted Hackers
Experts question whether Edward Coristine, a DOGE staffer who has gone by “Big Balls” online, would pass the background check typically required for access to sensitive US government systems.

Was the USA taken over by a ravenous private equity firm on January 20 or so?

Soy curls from Butler Foods. I went looking for a relatively shelf stable food with decent protein that's easy to prepare. I've had eggs, daily, for years, but wanted an alternative since this bird flu seems like a long-term problem.

I'm shocked at how good they are (needs seasoned!). Buying bulk!

I never got into Instagram all that much, but I'm glad to see more alternatives emerging.

Halloween-at-work proposal: for those of us who have to work on Halloween, dress as your actual self. Dress as you would for your hobby and bring it with you to work. Lose the mask for Halloween.

*maybe don't do this if safety would be compromised, or you'd be breaking laws/company policy

Morgan Creek Park/Arboretum this morning in Cedar Rapids, IA. I tried to get on the ground with him, but that caused him to move directly at me, making it difficult to get a focused shot. He was too close for the telephoto lens to focus several times. He was curious and calm.

Finally feeling like spring here in Iowa. Saw a goose rustling the jimmies of some turtles at the park, and I caught a squirrel off-guard in my back yard.

Sunny and 60s in Iowa. Caught several Bald Eagles and Ring-billed Gulls in flight over the Cedar River. These were a couple of my favorite. 🌿 Sony A7ii, Sigma 100-400mm contemporary

The IRS already knows what you need to pay in taxes – so why doesn’t it just tell you instead of putting you through a costly and tax-consuming reporting process?

Answer: Because Congress is catering to tax prep companies

Tis the season for grasshoppers in my back yard, apparently. Red-legged grasshopper in wildflower patch.

Sort of a wildlife photo. It's the consequence of having four cats of my own and a few hundred square feet of wildflower cover in my back yard. A suburban apex predator has taken over. In case you wondered, it 100% DOES use my raised garden beds as litter boxes.

I might only go out for photos once or twice every month or two, but I had to grab the camera earlier when I saw this guy chilling on a landscaping edger. Grasshopper at my house in Cedar Rapids.

Only one older pic from the collection. I'll only post new ones after this, but how cool was the timing to find this? Ellis Park, Cedar Rapids. Water Snake.
