A small mushroom. I love how brilliant green the moss is💚
A forest floor with lime green moss, some twigs, and a pretty, delicate grey mushroom with a tiny cap (not even 2cm across) and an extremely thin tall stem. It is very smooth but matte in texture, not glossy or slimy at all.

Fusulinid foraminifera are an extinct group of large single celled organisms that produced calcitic shells. Believed to have been photosymbiotic, they were common in shallow seafloor settings in the late Paleozoic.
Cut and polished block of limestone (packstone/biomicrite), exposing many fusilinid foraminifera in cross-section, in various orientations. Across the short axis, they resemble small chambered cephalopod shells, with tightly spiraled chambers. Across the long axis, they resemble a grain of rice with concentric inner layers. Label: "Fusulinids (Triticites?) Lower Wolfcamp, Permian "Wolfcamp Hills" locality, northeast of Orogrande, New Mexico. Donated by William Lovejoy." The South Falls at Silver Falls State Park is full after repeated atmospheric rivers. The waterfall cascades down over layers of lava rock into a greenish-blue pool. Douglas firs stand in the misty sun on the rocks above, and along the trail down to the falls. The trees in the right foreground are totally covered in green moss, as are the rocks behind and alongside the waterfall. Little green ferns are also poking out of the moss on the trees!

The Full Moon is the brightest lunar phase, and tonight you can stand in the light of the first Full Moon of 2026. In fact, the Moon's full phase occurs on January 3 at 10:03 UTC, while only about 7 hours later planet Earth reaches its 2026 perihelion, the closest point in its elliptical orbit around the Sun, at 17:16 UTC. January's Full Moon was also not far from its own perigee, or closest approach to planet Earth. For this lunation the Moon's perigee was on January 1 at 21:44 UTC. You can also spot planet Jupiter, near its brightest for 2026 and close on the sky to the Full Moon tonight. But while you're out skygazing don't forget to look for rare, bright fireballs from the Quadrantid meteor shower.
