Medicine is tested on volunteers. Technology ethicists should know that. If the volunteers are he sick or the elderly its because the drugs or treatments being tested have something to do with the conditions they have. the Tuskegee experiments where very much non-voluntary

combine those factors with the increasing trampling of human rights by those in power, double up the 'urgency' since if the Chinese unlock eternal youth they ain't sharing it with the west for free and it adds up to a recipe for Tuskegee like experiments in the USA.

If we're looking at making brain uploads or emulations, modern connectome mapping technology requires microscopes to examine tissue samples since diffusion MRI and similar scanning isn't fine grained enough to map at nano-scales. fastest way to make the map? lots of dissections.

I disagree somewhat. Wanting to live longer is of most urgent interest to those currently Alive rather than those yet unborn, so the focus will likely be on techniques to extend existing life. fastest way to make progress on that would be to test treatments on elderly or terminally ill.

I think its more sinister; the senate Dems are scared that the reformist sentiments represented by Mamdani will put a stop to the capitalist gravy train, so they're trying to put a stop to it by caving. they cant seem to get it into their heads that the gravy's already run out.

A Biotech race is a gateway to manmade horrors beyond comprehension. So is an AI race. Rushing ahead for the sake of endless national and business competition and thoughtless profiteering is a driving factor in the misuse of technology and it will blow up in our faces again, and again and again.

No, its getting dangerous for basically everyone else. America is more militarily powerful than anyone and basically untouchable at present. if America continues down this path it will eventually collapse as it loses the massive economic advantages that gave it its untouchable military...
