Labour doesn't need to be nice *to the Greens*. But it does need to draw enough support from the Greens that the Greens are not the story. Partly that means stuff like scrapping the two-child limit, yes. But that doesn't work if you're declaring war on immigrants at the same time.

A lot of that Green support will be coming from people who want "change", who want something different. saying "these guys are wacko" doesn't do a huge amount to hurt them, especially if they're not seen as likely to lead the government
