I'll discuss more specific mechanics as I get a better sense of the overall flow. But for now, I'll say it's shaping up to be a real neat take on a decades-old genre that looks and sounds great and has fun writing. It's nice to see such a confidently made game of its kind come from Konami again. 😌

So the big difference with Shine Post compared to other Japanese idol games you may be at least passively familiar with is that it's a business management sim first. Your primary concern is keeping your business afloat as you slowly guide your idols towards the end goal of a concert at the Budokan.

BREAKING NEWS, GAMERS: I'm not doomed to replay LoveR just yet because I managed to get a multi-language Switch 2 and will now be covering a launch game y'all forgot about: Shine Post, Konami's well-reviewed idol management game. I wasn't expecting to play this for a while, so I'm legit jazzed. 😎

Don't let anyone tell you I don't suffer for my art. You ain't gonna find another English speaker committed enough to buy one of the worst dating sims four times over just to have any version on hand at a moment's notice... or so I tell myself.

May this be the last time I buy you, wretched fiend. 😒

Happy Thanksgiving to meee, gamers. Feeling hashtag grateful for all the good dating sims I have in my collection today because I'm gonna need their collective energy to get through this clown show another time in one piece...

*siiiiiiiiigh*

Noodling around with Viewpoint 2064 now that the full thing is out there and while I'm not all that big a fan of how the game itself plays, it's another reminder of just how cool the Summercart 64 is for playing stuff like this on real hardware. One of my favorite gaming purchases this year. 😌

It's been over five years since a board showed up at auction at all and a complete set with the sensor so you can actually play it has been MIA in action even longer. To say these boards are probably being hoarded for the most part is an understatement. Pray for my soul I see it in my lifetime... 😩

a less principled gamer would look at the ten versions of tokimemo available to consumers and state their collection is complete once they've amassed them

not me

they* may stop calling me "ten tokimemo tom" afterwards, but i won't rest until i have a full cabinet of the arcade port 😔

*nobody does

What does "boot job #37" mean? If you plug a controller into slot 3 in a PCE multitap and boot into the game while holding up+left on that controller (ie: 7 on a numpad), it unlocks two things: 1. a Megumi event where you walk home together under an umbrella that's otherwise inaccessible on PCE.

There are like seven revisions of PCE Tokimemo. Most just have bugfixes, but later ones contain an extremely obscure piece of hidden content I'm not sure is documented anywhere in English. The only hint of it is in a new magazine ad that obliquely refers to something known only as "boot job #37." 🧵

There's also a line of Yotsuba figurines slated for February that I will actually probably commit crimes if necessary to collect them all, even if I really should stop doing so as often for the sake of both my finances and shelf space. But Yotsuba... 🥹

Forget video games, the next few months of releases are looking truly stacked in the world of Japanese gachapon. 👀

Not me belatedly playing the unofficial PS1 port of TGM1 on my Mister at 6 in the morning when I already have at least three other ways of playing that game in this very apartment, including a real ass arcade board. Nosiree, I only like me some sicko arcade Tetris a normal amount. 😌

Stuff like this is what I mean. (If this is your work, don't take it personality. New folks don't get nearly as much mentoring as they should.) These quotes serve no purpose in English and in some cases can make the subject look inadvertently dubious. Just dropping them makes for cleaner text.

This is on my mind a lot watching reviews of the Analogue 3D. I *really* hate on/off toggles that have to be turned on to DISABLE something. And the overclocking wording is cumbersome. Label the toggle "Overclock," set it on by default since it is, and label the choice beneath "Overclocking Mode."

The Game Awards: We know that China has twice as many gamers as the US population (because B2B sites never shut up about it) and I know we're happy to take money from your country's devs to advertise mobile games, but we hope you don't mind getting four seats while the US/UK get 10 times as many. ✌️

please let me localize amagami so it can be my full-time job to admire kaoru's hair and her entire being
November 17, 2025 at 2:04 PM
thinking again about how kaoru amagami sets impossible beauty standards for good hair, both imaginary and otherwise

i mean, just look at it, gamers

i have basically her hair irl and even i feel shame that my genes can't produce such a masterpiece

how could a dating sim ever do this to us 😔

Hear hear! The older I get and the more cranky I get about 11, the more I wish I could safely go back to it more often ahaha. 😭

I don't turn it on as much as I'd like lately, but at least the desktop gives me warm and fuzzy feelings when I do (and reminds me to play through my Windows copies!). 😌

Spent the better part of my afternoon banging my head against TGM3, trying to get it run under Windows 11 (which it should with finesse) and my Steam Deck (predictably a failure) before remembering, wait, this is why I built an XP rig, for stubborn Japanese PC games, and, lo, all is well again. 😌

7-11 curry bread update: the drought is over. I *finally* found some again while out and about well beyond my neighborhood last night and... I may have bought four of them across a couple of stores to savor over the next couple of days. Still as perfect as ever; it's like we were never apart. 😭

Most relevant(?) to what I typically cover, there's also Moe Moe Daisenryaku, a dormant sister series that's exactly what you think. Some of these command a decent premium nowadays and I just know in my gut I'm gonna have to try one of these to see if girls can give me the ojiisan strategy bug... 😩
November 16, 2025 at 3:24 AM
In these uncertain times, there's a certain indescribable comfort in seeing that, against all odds, there are 60 year old ojiisans who haven't fallen prey to World of Tanks and still play Daisenryaku to this day because apparently they still make them and they even put 'em in a PS5 box if you like.

My god, I finally found the mythical Japanese 7-11 fresh(-ish) chocolate chip cookies after a year of looking for them. 🥹

It's nothing super fancy, but surprisingly big for 180 yen a pop and they heat it up again in-store. Pretty good! Easy recommendation if you can find a branch selling them. 😌

Mmhm. You can manually trim down a decent amount of that lag by disabling automatic synchronization in the document tab up top. You'll then have to remember to sync your work yourself, but then it only has to ping the server when you do concordance searches and stuff, which is a fair tradeoff, IMO.
