For a “someday I’ll write it” fic, I sure do have a lot for this Illario as companion fic. Featuring: Rook’s adopted niece, who has the gift of seeing spirits.
Then Asun sits back, balanced on her aunt’s knee. Her eyes stare directly at Osla’s, but also gives the impression she watches something else entirely. “No no, Despair!” Osla feels a prickling thrill at the words, but she keeps smiling. She leans forward and boops Asun’s nose. “Don’t worry, little one, I know the best way to defeat Despair. Do you wanna know how?” Asun nods, and Osla boops her again. the girl giggles. “Just like that.”

Tumblr user nocryptographer: I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation. A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written. AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence. Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same. There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that. I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it. If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene... then it's real.

She carries favor in her own way, and the right people kiss her cheeks, which is enough to gain her access to the finest salons in Treviso. More importantly, it’s also understood that if one wants access to the First Talon, one must also endure the Lady Magpie, as he doesn’t step out of their townhouse for a party unless she’s there. She dominates any conversation they entertain with that sharp but playful wit, and he smiles and nods beside her, offering only a little conversation himself. Even if the elite of the city recoil at the idea, they can hardly deny that Lady Magpie is the current crowning jewel for House Dellamorte. Yet they wait, watching with cold eyes; even she must have a weak spot, something that causes her to stumble. Whoever sees it first will find themselves in position to blackmail the most powerful woman in Treviso.

Playing fast and loose with the word today. From my “maybe someday” project in which Illario is the companion instead of Lucanis in DAV.
Someone stands on the path, listing from side to side. Rook stops in her tracks, staring. His eyes glow violet, but he seems to look through them. He lifts his head and takes a deep breath. “Peppermint and kelp. Not her. I smell her! Where is she?” His voice scrapes on the inside of her skull. “It’s a possession, there’s no doubt, but he’s retained his human form!” Emmrich can barely contain his excitement. “Fascinating.” “So the human soul might still be intact?” Rook steps closer, but the demon doesn’t react. “Hello? Is there another soul in that body? Can we speak to your human companion?” “No! Lucanis made a deal, and didn’t keep!” She loses her breath; this can’t be the heir to House Dellamorte. Is this where that demon moniker comes from? Surely there’s not more than one person running around named Lucanis. “He likes being trapped! I rescued us! Not! Lucanis!”
