Good advice. Also, always have at least two premades handy, because you never know when/how you're going to pick up a new person and people trying new stuff usually bring a friend for comfort. (And have spell and ability descriptions printed so the new person doesn't have to flip through the book.)
GM Tip: Have a newbie player? Give them a pre-generated character first session and pair them with an experienced player. Let them learn by playing, not by reading. They can make their own character once they understand the game.
