Article in tomorrow’s RP on the Old and New courses at Cheltenham. Conclusion: “they essentially present the same test”. Couldn’t agree more. Said it on here ages ago.

From today’s RP, the jockey’s explanation to the stewards of his ride on Rory’s Royale at Kempton yesterday ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Shame. I was just getting interested.

Credit to Mr McCarthy, the owner, for contacting the Press Association. But why was it left to him to do so? It should have been the next thing Mullins did after informing the owner. But he never does it. McCarthy clearly cares about the punter. Mullins doesn’t.

I can remember being very nervous on Stan’s behalf that beer might be the problem.
Coronation Street - written by Julian Roach (10th December 1980). Stan continues to fret that he might be allergic to beer (luckily, he later discovers that eggs - not ale - are the problem).

Good luck to Australia with trying to ban under-16s from using social media. I'm still trying to persuade my son (now 28) to remove the parental control lock he put on my phone when he was thirteen.

On the face of it, Majborough looks a more appropriate candidate to be returned to hurdling than Sir Gino but there doesn’t seem to be any talk of it.

I know we’re all supposed to be on the brink of “turning to the black market” but the chances of me ever entrusting a penny of my money to shysters like this are, I can say with some confidence, nil.

The immensely wealthy will obviously do as they please but objectively the price paid for this filly is ridiculous. She’s promising but needs to improve to win at the top level and her pedigree’s distinctly ordinary. Great result for Karl Burke, though.

I’m sorry to hear this. Philip Waldron was a strong and reliable jockey, always associated in my mind with the Barnett colours which were a particularly familiar sight back then. And a “nice guy” as well, according to Henry Candy who’d be an expert on nice guys.
