This says a lot about Legal Aid rates and also calls into question the use of an arbitrary number to define the value of somebody’s work.

Credit to Mr McCarthy, the owner, for contacting the Press Association. But why was it left to him to do so? It should have been the next thing Mullins did after informing the owner. But he never does it. McCarthy clearly cares about the punter. Mullins doesn’t.

On the face of it, Majborough looks a more appropriate candidate to be returned to hurdling than Sir Gino but there doesn’t seem to be any talk of it.

I know we’re all supposed to be on the brink of “turning to the black market” but the chances of me ever entrusting a penny of my money to shysters like this are, I can say with some confidence, nil.

The immensely wealthy will obviously do as they please but objectively the price paid for this filly is ridiculous. She’s promising but needs to improve to win at the top level and her pedigree’s distinctly ordinary. Great result for Karl Burke, though.

For those interested in the breeding side of the sport, this is excellent from Adam Houghton in @thetdn.bsky.social with the words of Pierre Gasnier of @agakhanstuds.com carrying particular resonance in relation to his employers’ long-term goal.

You’d think the withdrawal of Amo Racing patronage was a significant factor in this.

I’m sorry to hear this. Philip Waldron was a strong and reliable jockey, always associated in my mind with the Barnett colours which were a particularly familiar sight back then. And a “nice guy” as well, according to Henry Candy who’d be an expert on nice guys.

Tremendously entertaining stuff for anyone interested in betting but I can’t imagine someone with Tony Bloom’s public image is too happy being associated with naff characters like George Cottrell and (indirectly) Nigel Farage.

For me, the fine should have been bigger and it really shouldn’t have taken the best part of eight months to deal with it.

Sensible piece from Kevin Blake regarding Constitution Hill. In particular: “…a cautionary tale to encourage the importance of striking while the horse is sound and not looking too far into the future.”
