Within hours of being sworn in, President Trump signed an executive order for a “pause” to all foreign assistance. Secretary Rubio sent a cable suspending every program outright. No program staff could be paid. No services could be delivered. Medicines and food already on the shelves could not be used. No warning had been given to the governments that relied on them. It was immediately obvious that hundreds of thousands of people would die in the first year alone. But the Administration did not reconsider; it escalated. Elon Musk exulted in swinging his chainsaw. Within weeks and in defiance of legal mandates, he and Rubio purged U.S.A.I.D.’s staff, terminated more than four-fifths of its contracts, impounded its funds, and dismantled the agency. Neither Congress nor the Supreme Court did anything to stop it.

Hearing my son's voice on the other end of the phone yesterday was absolutely heartbreaking. Seeing pictures of hm with his hands behind his back, ziptied was gut wrenching. He hold me that a gun had been pointed at his head before he was detained. --Parent of a detained child How is this okay? My kids were taken out of a truck at gun point. “Under normal times, in normal circumstances, I tend to think that the First Amendment should always be sort of the ultimate right. And that there should be almost no checks and balances on it. I don’t feel that way anymore,” Lummis added. “I feel like something’s changed culturally. And I think that there needs to be some cognizance that things have changed,” she added. “We just can’t let people call each other those kinds of insane things and then be surprised when politicians get shot and the death threats they are receiving and then trying to get extra money for security.”

One of the best way to oppose mass deportations is to oppose local cooperation. If you get a chance, email your ID reps and let them know what a waste this 287g agreement is for Idaho. Jim Jones has a decent criticism of it:

Info about ICE detention facilities is listed on the ICE website, the ID governor's press release and on a data broker site. The locations are always county jails. This is not secret information!

the Ada Co Police did not even bother to respond to affected citizens asking for an explanation. Who do they 'protect and serve' again?
Danielle Higley said that in trying to process the experience and reach a sense of “peace” about the events, she reached out to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, detailing her concerns that officers had fired in the direction of a crowded public place. She said she never heard back. “I know that our law enforcement … works really hard to ensure that the people in Idaho are safe, but we were not safe that day,” she told the Statesman. She said she wanted to understand what motivated deputies’ actions and whether there would be any additional training implemented to prevent a similar scenario from happening again. Sanchez, 44, had been under deportation orders since 2019 but was allowed to temporarily live and work in the United States as long as she regularly checked in with ICE. During that time, she married a Cuban-born naturalized U.S. citizen and had her first child in November 2023. Her husband sought legal residence in the U.S. for Sanchez two years ago as a result of their marriage, but had yet to receive a response, she said. Sanchez said officials separated her from her child at the check-in, escorted her to a van, handcuffed her and later that day deported her by air to Cuba alongside 81 others.
