I'm under the impression that the bear remains in Les Furtins cave are the origin of a lot of this idea of ritual bear cults: Leroi-Gourhan, André. "La Grotte des Furtins.(Commune de Berzé-la-Ville, Saône-et-Loire)." Bulletin de la Société préhistorique de France 44.1/2 (1947): 43-55.

Heh. If you hop on Google Earth and turn the topography up a little, you can see both the vegetation change of the old rail route, and the slight ground deformation. Is it usual in old railroads over there to use furnace slag as ballast, or is this thermite rail welding slag?

This is amusing. We've known basically where the gold is coming from in these rocks for a century or so, there's not much of it, prior attempts went bust. I've found it before, and its most likely its either under Zealandia, or a major road on it so they can't mine that now.

Today's fixit: Carefully taking apart two ~120 year old WW1 soldiers cots, because although the canvas on them is damaged, it's beautiful Scots Linen that I can use for other things, before I replace the cot covers.

Well, if you run a munitions factory without any of the sensible massive earth bunds between warehouses and just stick it in tin sheds beside each other, of course the eventual fire is going to get big. Seems to be almost no explosion protection installed here at all
