I love the fact that I built despeech.com as an API before anything else. It meant adding a quickstart was simple and now customers don't need to know how to make HTTP requests to use it.
I finally updated my handle to use my domain, like the cool kids.

ICYMI: My newsletter went out earlier this week, complete with everything I found interesting in the last little while: newsletter.ianwootten.co.uk/welcome-to-2...
Welcome to 2026
Here's my brief reflection on 2025. Fresh off the success of my first digital product I said I wanted to create more products. I did that in the last couple of years, with a Django starter kit and mor...

HP made a PC in a keyboard, like the olden days. Unlike the olden days it's an "AI" PC, which from the looks of it means it has a Co-Pilot button: uk.pcmag.com/desktop-pcs/...
I Spent a Week With HP's EliteBoard G1a, a Desktop PC Stuffed Into a Keyboard
This new AI "desktop" from HP hides in plain sight, with a design that takes inspiration from classic computers like the Commodore 64 or VIC-20. I got the chance for an extended first look at it befor...

In 2026, I want to get out and see people IRL. I've been locked in my Harry Potter dev space under the stairs for far too long. Would love suggestions for dev or maker events should I be going to? - feel like I miss them all!

Wouldn't it be great if all development problems were framed as bite-sized advent of code style puzzles?

Discovered all the extra campaigns I paid for in this box set back in 2017 expired ages ago as they're tied to a download code. It's weird even physical copies expire these days.

Awake to Google Cloud shutting down my account due to invalid payment info. Weird, haven't had problems elsewhere. On logging in it turns out they just wanted me to verify my card with a £0.00 payment. Maybe just ask for that? 🤷

Any framework owners out there want to pitch me suggestions on a distro for my laptop? I've mostly stuck with Ubuntu this far but would be up to try out something more spicy.

Just used claude to pinpoint a fairly gnarly db migration on one of the apps on my servers. Took a while but got a fix deployed that I wouldn't have found working alone.

Sad to hear Micron are killing Crucial to focus on AI. I've used them in most of my PC builds over the years. I can only see RAM getting more expensive in the coming months: arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025...
After nearly 30 years, Crucial will stop selling RAM to consumers
Micron cites AI data center demand as reason for killing DIY upgrade brand.
