435 to win.

5 and a bit sessions to go.

They've got the time, but have they got the application?

The Ashes is clearly a one-sided contest.

In the interests of making it more even, from now on the Australian cricket team should be managed by Ange Postecoglou. I gather that he's probably available, and unlikely to let a lack of tactical acumen get in the way of accepting the job.

Well played Jofra Archer 50*

Here we go. Hoping Stokes and Archer put on a performance that capitalises on their hard work yesterday (in sad contrast to the rest of the team) against an old-ish ball.

It's the faint hope that gets you...

So with the follow-on safely negotiated there's just the abject horror of England facing an improbable 4th innings run chase to come... Wasted opportunity today on a pitch that was at its most benign.

I'd rather watch Joe Root bowling rather than Will Jacks.

I'm just glad that this all took place between matches, rather than him pulling up in the middle of his 4th over, declaring himself unfit to continue, and then causing a domino effect of overuse injuries across the rest of the bowling attack.

He's 35 and constantly injured.

Time to stop the dream.

Classic TMS commentary moment at the start of England's 2nd innings:

"What the batsmen need to do is to just forget the scoreboard when they go out to bat"
- "Actually, that's one of the real strengths of this England team..."

High pressure situation. Need to dig in. Crawley out chasing a wide ball needlessly for nought in the first over?

The Football World Cup draw must be a real kick in the teeth if you're from a European nation that didn't qualify.

There are countries in the Group stage where I would struggle to name a single player from that nation playing in a major world footballing league.

325-9

That'll do. 350+ would have been better.

Well done Joe Root for finally getting that century Down Under.

Slow bowling Aussies.

Cricket doing better than I feared it might be when I turned TMS on this morning.

Root and Brook well set against an older ball could be tasty.

Just enjoying the awesome techno tunes on the #BBC6Music "Desert island disco" and trying not to dwell on them all being about 30 years old now!

So what formation are we playing tonight? BBC has it as 4-2-3-1, Google says 4-4-2. Both give a back four of centre-halves so presumably Abbott is on the right (hope he keeps an eye on the offside trap rather than tracking back all the time).

Good to see some fringe players getting a run out.

First day at the #IfSE #ASEC2025 conference, kicking off with a superb keynote from Victoria Bunyard puling together the Viable Systems Model, the law of requisite variety, the Systems Engineering Vee model, and a large dose of pragmatism when dealing with stakeholders.

This seems important to me. The current global energy transition breaks our key GDP metric.

Any economists out there care to comment?
