In Calgary Ward 7, we voted out the incumbent who was pro repeal of blanket zoning. He’s replaced by someone who was firmly against. Overall in the city a bit of a mixed bag though. New mayor is on the fence.

You need people for the resistance. It’s a fine line between normalization of an extremist vs. taking a stance that unnecessarily “others” people you want back. His view seems to be resist/debate against, but also signal a shared humanity, show you are looking for common ground, keep comms open.

Sure, but it isn’t exactly clear how to go about de-escalation and reversing extremists back to moderates. The left needs to offer something to followers of Kirk and the like beyond a hard wall of resistance and stigmatization. I believe this is Klein’s main point.
