Ya hay que ser malnacido para llamar evento geológico al hundimiento de media ciudad provocado por las operaciones de Braskem en Alagoas.
O principal destaque positivo do dia foi Braskem (BRKM5, +3,9%), após a agência de classificação de risco Fitch indicar em relatório que o anúncio da empresa de aumento de R$ 1,3 bilhão nas provisões referentes ao evento geológico em Alagoas possui um impacto limitado em seu perfil de crédito. Já empresas exportadoras como Suzano, JBS e Klabin (SUZB3, -4,0%; JBSS3, -3,8%; KLBN11, -3,7%) caíram, pressionadas pela queda do dólar.

Como apasionado del automobilismo esta historia me da vergüenza ajena. Los circuitos urbanos son peores para el espectáculo y atraen público adinerado sin interés en la competición que normalmente solo va una vez. Además, han entrado cuando la F1 está interesada en mercados asiáticos y EEUU.

A little comic about desire paths.
Ok so… There’s a nice little park on a corner, and a path running directly to one edge of the park. That’s the first image, but there’s 12 other images here. In the second image, there is now a desire path running diagonally across the park. Next image, the path has been blocked by a park bench that the council has put in as a deterrent. Unfazed, in image 4 the path now deftly avoids the park bench. In images 5 and 6 the process is repeated, this time with a strategically placed bin which the desire path also avoids. Presumably in a fit of rage, the council plants an entire hedge to stop people creating new desire paths but eventually this too is defeated and a new path find a way. Finally, the council admits defeat and turns the desire path into a proper paved pathway. After a little while, a new desire path curving off this new paved pathway begins to emerge…

My samples were originally destined for the USA, but due to scheduling issues at the laboratory, they were forwarded to another lab in São Paulo. I met my wife at the airport while traveling to Brazil.

What's the moment of luck that's had the biggest impact for your academic career? For me, it was how I wouldn't have gotten a PhD fellowship if it wasn't for the 1st-ranked person declining, which meant that I was awarded the fellowship as 2nd-ranked applicant. That was my last shot at a PhD.
