Modern Cricketers: “they didn’t mow the grass on the pitch short enough, that’s the cause of 36 wickets falling in 2 days at the MCG.”

WG Grace: Wait you guys are mowing the pitch?

The Australian landscape up close is fascinating and looks mostly like this.

Australia losing their last few wickets quickly is a clever ploy to get England batting before the pitch starts to flatten out. #ashes

I think the lesson we’re getting today is that getting quick runs is the go on this wicket. It’s only a matter of time before you get a jaffa you can’t do anything about, so cash in while you have the chance. #ashes

In 1862 on St. Stephen's Day, 38 Dakota warriors were publicly hanged in Mankato, Minnesota, which remains the largest mass execution in American history. There would have been more than 300 executions without the intervention of Episcopal Bishop Henry Benjamin Whipple. (1/3) ⚓️

Pope Francis lifted the world as he led the Church with his profound moral voice. As he returns to God, may his call to humility and concern for the least among us continue to resound.

Tomorrow's children's message:

I'll hand out pieces of paper with types of people Jesus calls us to love written on them. Ex: Neighbors, strangers, enemies, etc.

THEN I'll hand out pieces of paper with people Jesus tells us NOT to love.

*plot twist*

The second pieces of paper are all blank.

Today I've discovered an animal called "Skeleton panda sea squirt" exists. A sessile, filter feeding tunicat.

This #Ashes series reminds me a lot of the 2013/14 men’s Ashes (the Mitchell Johnson series). England come over expecting to be competitive but get utterly destroyed and demoralised instead. Probs gonna see some major changes to the English setup when they get home.

Alana King is unplayable. Something that’s really good if you’re a cricket bowler, but really bad if you’re trying to promote your debut pop album. #Ashes

Is there a luckier player in Test cricket than Marnus Labuschagne??? The missed runout, then umpire’s call on DRS, now somehow not being bowled by that ripper. #AusvSL

Only six players have scored a ton before lunch on day one of a test match. Could Trav become the seventh? #SLvAus

Trav is upset that he missed out on the BBL so he’s just decided to BBL this test match. #SLvAus

I find it particularly important on this date to acknowledge that I am living on the traditional lands of the Kaurna and Peramangk people. Always was, always will be.

Honestly the fielding has been the most noticeable difference in this game. Outside of one dropped catch the Aussies have barely set a foot wrong in the field, and the last two dismissals wouldn’t have been possible if not for fielding brilliance. #Ashes

Imagine 3 billion more hectares for fully wild ecosystems.

Diet is THE elephant in the room when it comes to reversing nature collapse.

We could reduce the amount of land used for grazing and croplands used to grow animal feed.

“What’s your favourite part of going to the cricket?”

“Watching it.”

Perfect answer, no notes.
