Mjollnir says hello, and wants to know if you have treats. He’s happy to see you either way though

I made a pizza the other day and arranged the pepperoni as a big 6 7. That was the breaking point for him

I’ve leaned it into it, which has turned it partly into a family in-joke and partly into something so uncool he no longer goes out of his way to point it out

The next time you get pulled over for speeding, the cop is going to give you a warning.

Depends on how good that vodka was. It's a sliding scale.

It suffers the same problem as a lot of things in the federal govt: it treats norms as load bearing and provides little recourse for their failure

Yeah, I don't make a lot of good decisions. IN I GO

I was about to try to figure out the context here when a klaxon in my head started sounding, telling me no, you know what, you can live with the mystery on this one

I work in tech, but in a somewhat specialized subsection, and this is what I tell my people: the actual programming is one of the less important parts of what we do. The domain knowledge - and the context to apply it properly - are paramount, and that's not getting automated anytime soon

Some of those kids have bad vibes. Let's hear the man out
December 1, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Yeah, a lot of that sentiment comes down to people conflating Manchin (who was always the best we were going to get from WV) with Sinema (who was a total bait and switch). Having Manchins in places where there's not any clear path to something better is fine, as you say; better than the alternative.

Don't mind me, I'm old and cranky and just want Second Edition back

Do me a favor while you're calling the shots over there and have whoever licensed out Talisman to Avalon Hill fired

preferably out of a cannon

Fair! Kinda!

They were definitely in denial about how factionalism could overrule national interest, though. They knew how politics actually got done (they engaged in it themselves re: slave states!) so it's an extension of the GW problem. *They* wouldn't put party over country, etc

Day one. Have them start while the inauguration is going

Late to the party here, but in my experience when people say eight inches, the truth is more like “six and some incredibly favorable lighting choices”

One of my hotter civics takes is that Washington being the first President actually fucked us long term, because the job was designed around him.

The Founders’ total denial around political parties fucked us harder, but President as it is currently constructed doesn’t exist without ol’ George.

Even *with* a kid, as long as you don’t live in one of those most expensive cities on Earth (NYC, SF) you hit king status well under 150k

I would keep my current job, because I like it, but probably not get another. I've already had to think about post-retirement, though, because I am not great at sitting still.

Fortunately, my skill set makes "volunteer work in open source" a viable time-filler, so I have concepts of a plan at least

Arnock, on the night of his joining.

The Vance dynamic is fascinating because I don't think he's the first choice of _any_ of them but he's the best-positioned and that means some people are going to line up behind him out of opportunism. The question becomes, is it going to be enough of them?
