What I find interesting is that of the three adaptations of "Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal," each has used a different title and different names for all the characters.

Also, none of them have engaged with the criticism of antisemitism in the 1907 original...

Exactly. Warhol (having worked in advertising and graphic design) recognized the work that had been put into the design of a box of Brillo.

Now, to be fair James Harvey (who designed the original Brillo box) wasn't a fan of Warhol.

But at least Warhol actually gave Harvey credit when asked.

The thing is that when I was in my 20s, I was an enormous admirer of Lichtenstein.

But his dismissal of comic book artists who weren't respected by "high culture," and actively trying to diminish their work and legacy is unforgivable.

You can't "recontextualize" if you deny the original context.

Depends on the person blurbing.

There's some authors whose blurbs I've found to be good predictors of what I'll enjoy, but whose own work I don't enjoy.
