And frankly, misinformation is a thing to live with at this point. Doesn't seem too bad to me either. Sure it's a challange on multiple levels but it was largely inevitable. Technology has changed so much in a lifetime or two, this is how postmodern society reacts to it. People gotta adapt&they will

Holding platforms accountable on people's creativity has never sat well with me. Technically all of modern internet from the 15-20yrs can be. Communication shifts our attitude, sure that has an effect on creativity. It still remains an innate drive, I don't see AI having a bigger role in it. /2

I cannot be sure that the figures spreading online are not exaggerated. At the very least, the one about the water seems so: andymasley.substack.com/p/the-ai-wat...

Electricity has constant demand in modern society anyways, and renewables exist so personally I don't make a fuss about it. /1

That's in fact, the desired outcome.

Frankly, I'm aware many on the anti-AI crowd find the drugs parallel appropriate; if you believe in that, then this quote is applicable.

I'm not one of them, so I can't make anything out of it. I'm not intending on arguing with a strawman; I do know for sure LLMI AI is a net positive to humanity.
November 27, 2025 at 2:20 PM
But hundreds of thousands of them, and not jsut a handful of them...?

Modern internet infrastructure adds up.
November 27, 2025 at 2:17 PM
For that one, the most obvious seems to be cutting corners. Social media punishes you if you don't put out content regularly, which is sad but can *somewhat* justify the means.

Strange. Little use of AI is something I do understand and even advocate. But when there's already a shitload of music online, and since (let's be honets) synthwave isn't a genre to get rich (or even famous) in, I just don't see the point.

There are thousands of those kind on Bluesky, though. Also on Xwitter, for that matter, and most platforms don't have a mass block feature.

Bluesky is good with blocklists, to some extent.

I'm not arguing in the sense that I indeed don't have the ability to read people very well. I also try to have some delay in emotional reactions to there might be that to it.

Communication is hard.

I already see how these AI tools in the hands of pros / domain experts are way more efficient than in the hands of novices. Clear enough with software engineering already

Of course, they could help level up people faster (we're seeing some hints in this with eg interns)

The bigger problem is that it's not even the "good kind of" niche.

It's very possible I've been naive in the past but in the old Twitter days, I could have never imagined it goes this bad in discourse.

It's atrocious.

Me too. But, it turns out if you post something that goes viral or gets enough attention, you then attract the anti-AI mob and they beat you down. Then add you to all these block lists. It shouldn't be this catty. I would want my more popular posts to attract a lot of discourse, not the ghouls.

It's very, very hard to convince me anyone deserves THIS.

On my behalf, I wouldn't find asking such question particularly useful, but it also didn't come off to me the way you put it.

At least I have no reason to assume bad faith from him. He's a reputable person, after all...

"AI is a cult!" Yeah dude. That's where all new and weird stuff comes from. From cults.
November 17, 2025 at 6:35 AM
It's alright; I did the same about Zen Buddhism.
November 27, 2025 at 9:36 AM
I could tell the same. The shitstorm Ronacher got is far below any standards I have for discourse. In fact I'd rather skim through low effort shit than vitrolic bad-faith comments.

If it wasn't for my innate drive to find good content I would have abandoned reading the discourse altogether, its bad

Which raises serious, deeper questions about ideologies and whether our political spaces are actually up to the values we want to spread in the world.

I mean, what message it will have that X (a cesspool of an online platform) allows more free discourse of Big Data than this?

I don't see this as any different than one that skips through college cheating and graduates.

That's a human problem, not an AI problem.

I am the kind of person that would be a better engineer if I had AI starting out. Not everyone is like that.

The water thing is mostly overblown andymasley.substack.com/p/the-ai-wat...

The electricity and CO2 impact is real and deserves serious attention, which is why it's annoying that the water issue steals so much of that attention

What's going on about this discourse online is horrendous.

Sometimes I feel like a masochist for trying to find something constructive about it on Bluesky.
November 26, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Nah, sadly you won't find solace in it.

Flask slaps though, so you don't need validation.

Fair enough, I'm merely spreading awareness
November 26, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Well stellar news for ya: it has never been a drain on society, more of an augmentation; never been a drain on the planet, has about the same carbon footprint as the normal web; and people mostly fuck up their own brains so it's moot.

So if that's all it takes, you can embrace AI. You're welcome.
