Mostly energy, supply chains, and transportation. Toto enthusiast. Still a MENA student at heart.

Onward, Rocinante!
Picked up 11% SOC in the past 12 hours, so finally switched over to the 240V port. That accelerated my expected full recharge from Saturday to tonight.

I honestly just wanted to see what I would get if I had to plug into a random garage outlet. Note to self - make sure any Airbnb has a 240V outlet!

While we’re on the topic of EV charging…

Georgia just announced its 2nd round of NEVI awards. Almost $25M in awards across the state. Keep it coming!

Stop 7: Made it with 9% SOC, and plugged into the garage. I’m currently getting about .5 kW and should be set with 100% by the time I leave again on Sunday!

(I will probably switch to the garage’s 240V port tomorrow to speed this up to a full charge by midweek.)

Another seamless experience. Though pricier than last time. $.66/kWh. Similar charge curve as last time, though going to 90% obviously meant the latter part of it throttled down further.

And can say Pilot has really upped their game on the accommodations. Clean bathrooms at both stops.

Stop 6: This should be a longer one, as I’ve set the limit to 90% SOC. I’ve got about 190 miles to Dallas, and can plug in at the garage in my parents’ home.

Pulled up to another Pilot-GM Energy station, on the northeast edge of Texarkana, AR.

A Lyriq pulled in right after me.

No issues here. Not cheap at $.60/kWh but very efficient. Topped out briefly around 150 kW and spent most of the session above 100 kW.

I should need only one more charge to make Dallas, but my navigation is programming for two. With the bad weather now I might be inclined to make the extra one.
November 24, 2025 at 3:23 PM
Stop 5: Pulled into this Pilot/GM Energy station in Benton, AR with ~30% SOC.

It’s my first EVgo station of the trip, after GM just sent me an $80 credit for EVgo charging. Also thanks to the GM-EVgo integration, I didn’t even need to tap a card or use an app.

I just plugged in, and it started.

Made it into downtown Little Rock with 41% SOC. Will definitely need to charge up before I hit the Texas state line tomorrow.

And oh yeah, made a little detour just before Memphis earlier to check on Blue Oval City. It’s come a long way since I last swung by in early 2023!

Stop 4: After a coffee break in Memphis, I needed one more charge to reach my hotel in Little Rock.

My navigation directed me to this Electrify America station at the Walmart in Forrest City, AR.

Not surprisingly, I’m the only one here. But it’s well-lit and camera-monitored, so feels safe.

And let me tell you, folks, this place is wild.

We talk about what the “Route 66 Experience” of EVs might look like. Well how about a bona fide *Tina Turner pilgrimage site* for an hour charging session!

And of course…clean bathrooms, free coffee, and a proper gift shop.

Stop 3: I didn’t have enough juice to reach Memphis, so my navigation directed me to this ChargePoint station in Brownsville, TN at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. I arrived with 13% SOC.

There wasn’t much in terms of charging between Nashville and Jackson.
November 23, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Stop 2: Had 32% SOC leaving my buddy’s place in Nashville, and had GM’s navigation pick charging locations for me en route to Memphis.

They’ve had me stop at the Electrify America station in Green Hills mall. Pulled up to find a Bolt, a Lexus RZ, and two Waymos charging here too.

It’s going…not amazing. Despite the charger’s 200 kW rating, I’ve been sitting between 26-28.5 kW the entire time. At $.40/kWh, at least it’s cheap.

Both the Lyriq and Mach-E appear to be topping out around 80 kW.

(A second Mach-E has since pulled up and also is getting 70+ kW)
November 21, 2025 at 9:25 PM
Stop 1: Electric Era’s station at Middle Tennessee Electric in Murfreesboro, per a recommendation from LinkedIn. I rolled up with about 15% SOC.

Four dual NACS/CCS SK Signet charging units. A Lyriq was already charging when I pulled up. A Mach-E has since joined.

I feel like you could write an entire book on urban infrastructure policy and liberal governance failures just using the example of Atlanta's Juniper Street complete street project.

All of this for a single mile of streetscaping.

These guys want to make flashy announcements and move on, without understanding or cultivating sectors.

There are serious career staff trying to actually make things happen, but I’m afraid it’s all going to be undermined by political forces. We’ll all be worse off for it.
