They do, but they also need multiple avenues to develop. Schools are designed for learning and not a catch all social space for kids. They need third spaces outside of school and their home where they can exist as people. The more chances they have to practice, the better they'll do in the long run

Hard disagree, with the caveat that they need to behave well or get kicked out. Kids need public, safe spaces to be in to stretch their wings in terms of independence away from parents. Malls are a great way to do that.
