The 6 month stock market performance is telling the same story. TSX growing nearly twice as fast as S&P 500.

I'm a little surprised he is still in the league, I thought he was done a few years ago. However, when you have size and willingness to play in front of the net and have good hands and satisfied playing a secondary role you can extend your career far longer than typical. See Corey Perry for example.

What do you want to hear Carney say?
January 7, 2026 at 11:03 PM
-Threatened more military action in Venezuela if leaders didn't cooperate.
-Threatened Columbia.
-Threatened Mexico.
-Threatened Cuba.
-Seized a Russian oil tanker and a Venezuelan ship.

I don't think most people believe them. Trump's popularity is at its lowest ever. His job approval is underwater on almost every issue. The domestic economy is sputtering, manufacturing jobs are in decline, farmers need government aid, and Trump's focus is starting foreign wars Americans don't want.
January 7, 2026 at 9:15 PM
I don't disagree but this discussion is specifically about Trump/Greenland and Carney's response. On that Canada has made its voice clear, if softly. The people of Venezuela should decide their leaders. The people of Greenland should decide their future. Canada will help defend Europe and democracy.

A big part of what Trump wants to do is create chaos and generate a reaction. It probably irks Trump more and sends a stronger message that Carney didn't respond immediately and forcefully and instead was calm and responded when he was on European soil discussing deals to help defend Europe.
January 7, 2026 at 7:44 PM
I do get the desire to speak more loudly and strongly against Trump and part of me would prefer he did too but I don't assume that Carney is so quiet behind the scenes. I am certain he plugged in to everything and has had plenty of discussions with European allies and made Canada's view clear.

Thanks for proving my point. Have a nice day.

Show me a post where *you* say what *you* think Carney should do/have done in response to Trump's threats to Greenland. I looked back a day or two of your posts and didn't see any but I'll gladly apologize if I missed it.
January 7, 2026 at 6:51 PM
You have a lot to say about what others are doing wrong but very little about what *you* would do.
January 7, 2026 at 6:43 PM
He'd probably rename it Trumpland or Goldland too and claim he ended the war he started to acquire Greenland so deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
January 7, 2026 at 6:05 PM
I hope you aren't one of the people criticizing Carney for not using stronger *words* against Trumps threats to Greenland.

Should we open a military base in Greenland to challenge the 150 people the U.S. have stationed there?
January 7, 2026 at 5:09 PM
I actually think Carney should be tougher, or at least been quicker in his response. I also realize that poking the bear can have consequences. What if Carney critiqued Trump and Trump slapped another 25% tariffs on Canada? Is that smart strategy? Maybe. Maybe not. But have an opinion.
January 7, 2026 at 4:31 PM
I get that you want Carney to have a tougher stance. So, tell me what you want him to say/do. I scanned your posts from the last couple days and you have done a lot of critiquing and criticism but unless I missed it you have not made a comment on what *you* think Carney should do. Have an opinion.

But the NDP are mostly a domestic policy party and last election was mostly about foreign policy so they had a tough uphill battle from that standpoint too.
January 7, 2026 at 3:21 PM
Yes, and that was their mistake. When the Trudeau government started to fall they turned on the Liberals hard criticizing them for everything. They should have owned their role and claimed ownership of cheap daycare, expanded dentalcare, pharmacare etc.
January 7, 2026 at 3:21 PM
Exactly. They are a party of cynicism and negativity. 'Approve a pipeline immediately" is pretty much all they have for policy.
January 7, 2026 at 3:10 PM
The problem with Poilievre and federal Conservatives is they never have anything positive to say, critical of everything the Liberals do even when not remotely justified. It's leadership by cynicism. Please, let's not make the federal NDP the same. We need less negativity and cynicism, not more.

Or a Putin sticker. Putin constantly looking over Trump's shoulder seems appropriate too.

Social media would be much better if everyone was aggressive in blocking, or even ignoring, anyone behaving in a way which would be considered anti-social in real life.
I've become quick to block people who appear to be bullies or attention seekers that have nothing to contribute to the discussion.
January 6, 2026 at 7:32 PM
Venezuela is going to be a mess for years if Trump continues to try to bully it into submission. A little diplomacy could go a long way, but Trump is so bad at diplomacy.
January 6, 2026 at 2:05 PM
Plus, by Trump outright stating they plan to run the country and steal Venezuelan oil there will be a lot of distrust of anything American. People don't like living under the rule of a corrupt domestic government, but people hate living under the rule of corrupt foreign government infinitely more.
