I promise we did vote on MMOs, it's just they, er, didn't quite make it in.

PC Gamer's Top 100 didn't have a single MMO in it this year—here are my 3 theories as to why we did that
I've run the numbers, and by run I mean look at them a bit and sigh.

I feel like we need to be asking the question: "God, doesn't this suck?" about these desperate attempts to make AI-gen goddamn -anything- more often.

sorry is there games journalism discourse happening, I was busy clumsily photoshopping a sword into the pope's hand on company time for a @joshuawolens.bsky.social story

I don't want a Metacritic-style rating, if you're going to make fun of me I expect a fully-statted out attributes wheel. Y'know, the ones where the different stats create a polygon.

the most concerning thing about them justifying murdering an obviously completely innocent murder by ICE is if they can justify and defend this, there’s nothing that’s too far for them. anything you can imagine them doing is very likely something they’ll stand behind

no more. please, god. i am so tired and so angry
NEWS: In a heartbreaking video, after ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, a woman who was in the same SUV cries out: “They killed my wife. I don’t know what to do."

“We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head,” the distraught woman sobs.

also as others have rightly pointed out: hey. if it doesn't matter then you should be able to replace it with a pink and black cube or gibberish. if you can't replace it with a pink and black cube or gibberish, it matters enough that someone should actually be making it
i think the amount larian's using and where does matter, but i also think it's deeply fucking stupid to be using AI for placeholder text

yes, i am going to use the "pisses everyone off" machine to do something that inherently doesn't matter and makes the placeholders harder to find and replace

one of my favourite parts about my job is that I can admit that I need Robert Robertson III from Dispatch carnally, and my editors will take a look at it and go "yep! that's going in". no questions asked

also it's the truth have you seen that man

the hardest part of writing politically charged fiction is that a good villain needs to be complex, cool and about as right as the protagonist; while evil people in real life are lame, cruel, childish morons motivated by greed or not wanting to look at minorities

Much of the hand wringing, imo, is over a critic explicitly saying they are judging the moral fabric of a piece of art because of the tools used to create it and it’s making some folks feel uncomfortable and shamed. The people who feel that way should sit with that feeling.

Different line of work, but while we’re on the subject: Not a single word of anything I’ve written at PC Gamer or elsewhere was drafted, edited, outlined, or in any way generated by AI. And not a single word will be, because it’s antithetical to the thriving of the human spirit.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

oh yikes. yikes yikes yikes.

Mellits i have misspoken. if you are being held at gunpoint please blink twice
this article is terrible for the obvious reasons, it was also written by an undergrad intern which raises the question: why are editors making her do a story people are going to dunk on her for and/or why are they accepting this pitch / not editing it better. not good!
October 31, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Mellits is obviously making ragebait I'm under no obligation to take seriously, but I gotta wonder how you write "the younger generation allows themselves a tiny treat once every seven days" and call it overspending without immediately bursting into flames because hell has misplaced one of its own
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
