also as others have rightly pointed out: hey. if it doesn't matter then you should be able to replace it with a pink and black cube or gibberish. if you can't replace it with a pink and black cube or gibberish, it matters enough that someone should actually be making it
i think the amount larian's using and where does matter, but i also think it's deeply fucking stupid to be using AI for placeholder text
yes, i am going to use the "pisses everyone off" machine to do something that inherently doesn't matter and makes the placeholders harder to find and replace

Much of the hand wringing, imo, is over a critic explicitly saying they are judging the moral fabric of a piece of art because of the tools used to create it and it’s making some folks feel uncomfortable and shamed. The people who feel that way should sit with that feeling.

Different line of work, but while we’re on the subject: Not a single word of anything I’ve written at PC Gamer or elsewhere was drafted, edited, outlined, or in any way generated by AI. And not a single word will be, because it’s antithetical to the thriving of the human spirit.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
