I love Small Gods. It feels to me like the moment where Pratchett shifted from a Douglas Adams “Ha ha, everything’s dumb and pointless!” style to the “I’m going to be utterly absurd and deadly serious AT THE SAME TIME” approach that gave his later works such moral weight.

I love Small Gods. It feels to me like the moment where Pratchett shifted from a Douglas Adams “Ha ha, everything’s dumb and pointless!” style to the “I’m going to be utterly absurd and deadly serious AT THE SAME TIME” approach that gave his later works such moral weight.

My dark theory, which I don’t want to believe but at this point can’t dismiss out of hand, is that someone in the administration thought, “Maybe THIS is how we provoke them into an excuse for using the Insurrection Act.”
