Fantastic to see @johnswinney.bsky.social cite our new analysis of the very real difference that the Scottish Child Payment is making in Scotland. Investment in social security is a good thing!

New study from LSE, York & Glasgow universities shows the Scottish Child Payment is transforming lives.

Without it, 70,000 more children would face deprivation and food insecurity.

We will keep investing in families and lifting children out of poverty.
Scottish Child Payment | Food Insecurity | Deprivation
New analysis shows the Scottish child payment sharply reduces child deprivation and food insecurity, with no evidence of work disincentives. Discover the findings.

The economic benefits from scrapping two child limit can outweigh the initial costs. Some estimate the wider economic burden of child poverty at £39bn a year – lifting 10 per cent of children out of poverty will help alleviate this.

I can’t envisage a child poverty strategy which garners any credibility without fully scrapping the two-child limit.

Two years of war in Gaza. Families uprooted, hospitals destroyed, and children losing their lives and futures. Famine and fear have become a daily reality. We call for a permanent ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian aid. #Gaza #HumanitarianAid

Rebuilding your entire life in just 28 days would be extremely hard for anyone—but for people with no support, no money and a system stacked against them, it is near impossible.

The government’s decision to cut the move-on period will leave more people with new refugee status homeless this winter.

2024 was the deadliest year for aid workers. 2025 is already worse: 128 killed in 5 months—98% local staff. In Gaza alone, 107 have been killed since January. Their courage saves lives, but they deserve protection. Uphold international law. #WorldHumanitarianDay2025 #ActForHumanity

Recognition of the state of Palestine should not be used as a bargaining chip. It should have happened months ago.

We also need far greater action to stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, including fully ceasing arms sales and implementing sanctions against the Israeli cabinet.

Israel’s siege is starving Gaza. Children are dying, adults fainting from hunger—while aid is blocked.

Humanitarian groups can respond, but need access.

Governments must act now—before it’s too late.

And I’m already seeing anti-vax nonsense in response to this tragic news on social media. We are living in such dangerous times.
