If you live off Medicare and SSI, maybe don’t vote for the party that doesn’t believe you should have those things…

How does Josh Hawley not get that a single healthcare incident (like, say, getting tested and treated for cancer) is going to be way over $25,000 on top of ppl not having access to cash? And obviously so many Republican voters vote with the same mindset even when it’s ridiculous.

How does Stephen Miller go about his life not thinking about how his ancestors fled as refugees from pogroms? How do Paul Ryan and JD Vance not think about the assistance they received as children that helped them survive?

Hmmm. Thinking of my husband, an Episcopal priest, who made an Instagram video that he posted on his old church’s—full of Red Elephant Club members and the guy who drove Saban around when he came to town— account the day after we beat Alabama in the NCG in 2022 (we’d just left a few months before).

I put the breast in for ten minutes then added the rest of the chicken. All pieces were juicy and flavorful when it was done, but commenters also suggest slow cooking the chicken at 300 for about 2 hours to get it melting off the bone, which I think I’ll try next (with some advanced cutting up).

Would definitely make it again. And it’s worth it to check out Melissa Clark’s cute video where she makes it. youtu.be/STNomOTbqWY?...

I’m a big Michael Schur fan in general, and like Parks and Rec, but really only watch episodes from season 4 on. Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, and making Ben Schwartz more of a regular really improved it, IMO.

Anti-vaxxers claim high mortality from VPD was due to crowding, poor nutrition, less than ideal breastfeeding duration, etc. I think they imagine that everyone prior to 1950 who died of a VPD lived in a Victorian era industrial horror show, rather than the rates being consistent *until then*.

One thing that strikes me about this chart is where the Aztecs are (>60%). I don’t know enough about meso-American history to know what was going on in that specific period, but I do know that the cities 800 years later were pristine and that food was healthy & babies were exclusively breastfed.

I was a LLL leader for several years & I’d estimate that the vast majority of babies/kids whose mothers came to the meetings during that time weren’t vaccinated. My co-leader & I talked a/b it after we stopped leading—it was like we were in a fever dream. And it was the only support for so many.

Yep. And it’s everywhere from concerns about contraception to unmedicated birth to breastfeeding support to bed sharing, etc. When the only people offering support are the ones who also happen to be anti-vax, it’s hard not to wonder if they could be right.

I’m in public health now *and* am a researcher and my kids have all their vaccines now, including Covid boosters, but there was a time when I was in the thick of the anti-vax shit and it started b/c I had an OB who ignored my cascading symptoms until I was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome.

This is so true. It’s real easy to fall for the anti-vax lines when you feel let down by the medical establishment.

I’m gonna need to watch some Ocean’s Eleven clips to cleanse my palette after listening to this accent.

I would be like Nora Ephron finding out that Mark Felt was Deep Throat and bringing it up in conversation constantly for years and years and years and then being really annoyed when he finally came forward and it was like "WASHINGTON'S BIGGEST MYSTERY SOLVED" and she was like "wow exCUSE me"

I don’t think ppl who didn’t see the difference between 94 and 96 on can appreciate what it was like before then. Scientific research *is* the miracle.
