The poly/nylon ones make my skin blister, but finding wool ones (mostly Sockwell) has made a huge difference.

The air is cold enough my fingers sting, the snow of the last month has mostly melted, leaving stubborn ice behind in patches. After the clouds of sunset the light looks like liquid gold today.

I'm surrounded by the sounds of waking neighbors, including getting yelled at by the tiny one squirrel in the bare boxelder near the road, the rapid chick-a-dee-dee-dee song from the old rose canes, and the chipping call of a junco flock.

May the turning of the year bring you empathy & connection. May it bring you rest, resolve, & resource. May you find beauty & joy & let it move you.
As we stand in the darkness, may we remember this too is sacred.

I'm saying prayers to the Ancestors with old fire tools in my hands, praying as I kindle fire to tend through the night. Steel strikes, sparks catching on char cloth, and I transfer fire with a scrap of birch bark.
I sing to the wind and the sky, holding this tiny bit of light.

I really dislike this world we live in that says it wants art, but without anything that comes with art.

Like paying and respecting artists, allowing time for creation, treating learning as valuable even if it doesn’t produce commercially viable works, remembering learning doesn’t stop.
