I appreciate the impulse to show the correction, I do. But social media doesn’t handle nuance like that, unfortunately.

Sorry to have contributed to an unpleasant experience.

Props to my partner who when I relayed the quoted non-fact went “really?” and inspired me to double check

It's a struggle, but it's gratifying once things start coming together. What I have on paper tonight is a clean expression of idea I didn't have well-formed when I began this morning.

Some people think we should hand off this painstaking form of labor to LLMs and get back to doing science.

Curation doesn’t quite capture it. I imagine the self as a hyper-dimensional object encountered only in a two-dimensional cross-section at any time.

“But in this context you were a square, but now you are a circle!”

Yes, both those are cross-sections of a cylinder.

I guess I agree with *most* of this. Curation of self is easier, perhaps, online than elsewhere. But it’s always being curated
I have a theory on this. Our "real selves" have a very different level of curatable nature. Yes, we are different people in different settings, but we are always aware of ourselves; as ourselves.

The same is not true of interactions at a remove.
It's an extremely common misconception that people who have verified identities or are using their "real" names are less abusive online, but it's not true. Pseudonymous and anonymous people behave less abusively than people using their "real" names: journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...
