Camino Day 32. It’s a wrap! Made it to Santiago de Compestela. A lot of emotion at the Cathedral. We spent the afternoon cheering on pilgrims from a street cafe. Tonight we celebrate!!! $5000 raised for heart disease research from people across the globe. www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Camino Day 31. Ribadiso to O Pedrouso. 20km. People are equal parts happy and sad as the end of the camino arrives. Only tomorrow separates us from the end of 800km. Our camino friend Max rejoins for the last day - what a sense of connection! Tomorrow everyone is shopping for new clothes!

Camino Day 30. Portomarin to Palas de Rei: 26km. The end is in sight; 75km left! Crowds out in full force. I wonder if they know other parts of the Camino are just as wonderful! Amazing scenery: reminds me of Ireland & weather is giving similar vibes: wet! Have been lucky to avoid the rain until now

Camino Day 29. Sarria to Portomarin: beautiful scenery! The crowds have joined us! Big shout out to my Camino family for supporting me through my injury; it slows everyone but all have been super. In the last 4 weeks I have spent more time with these people than family & friends in the last year.

Camino day 28/29. Man down - I needed another taxi today from Triacastela to Sarria. after seeing a physio I hope to walk tomorrow but it will be slow going. Bumped into a whole tranche of students from my brothers old school - good idea to give them an unforgettable trip on the Camino!

Camino Day 28. Said good bye to Prof Cunningham today as he returned to the UK. Calf strain severely hampering walking despite the intervention of a trained professional! Took taxi from O Cebreiro to Triacastela in hopes of walking tomorrow. Beautiful scenery. www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Camino Day 26. Walked 14km today from Villafranca to Valcarce. Slow going with calf strain- leg and ankle swollen - had to take cab remainder of the distance to Las Lagunas. Interesting to see crops change over the last month - leaves on the vines, wheat ripening www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Camino Day 25. Walked Ponferrada to Villa Franca del Bierzo. A lot of fun. Crossed the threshold-less than 200km left & over 600km behind us! May 1st festival in the town resulted in a very large pizza to feed the Camino family. Calf strain is giving me problems! www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Day 24. Walked from Foncebadon to Ponferrada - 25km. Molinaseca just beautiful. Ponferrada castle picture postcard! Lovely dinner with my good friend Prof Adam Cunningham who joins for the next few days.

Camino Day 23. Didn’t get to post yesterday due to blackout. A very special experience to be separate from the world & know nothing of the blackout. Local man bought us wine & told stories of the connections between Galicia and Ireland. Yoga lessons! www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Camino Day 20. Had a great rest day in Leon. Visited physio for calf strain - apparently not enough stretching! Said good bye to @paulhoskisson.bsky.social - had a few great days of walking & chatting! Shoes worn out and a new pair needed - but apparently none in Spain is cursed with wide feet!

Camino Day 18. Wonderful Day of walking: weather turned warmer 5C start ended with 22C. Covered 25km in 5 hours. Took old Roman road & saw only three pilgrims and a local - much quieter than the highway route!
Thanks to all who have supported the cause so far www.justgiving.com/campaign/cam...

Camino Day 17. Sahagún to Calzadilla de las Hermanillos. Easy walk along the 2000 year old Roman road. At the only stop along the route all the bars were closed for the Easter vacation. Fran, a very kind local took pity on us & made us coffee. This is what the Camino is all about - connection!

Camino Day 16. Some are feeling the effects of continued exertion! Wonderful day of walking stopping in Sahagun. Today we passed the halfway point by distance and by geography! We saw the biggest horse hoof fungi ever seen - #microbiologyonthecamino

Camino day 14. Castrojeriz to Poblacion de Campos - 29km. Big shout out to @paulhoskisson.bsky.social for staying the distance - now he knows he has hips, calf muscles, and thigh muscles. Almost half way and the shoes are taking a beating! Lovely day chatting about science but ready for bed by 9pm!

Camino Day 13. Man down! We lost Max to shin splints and the need to return back to London. Thankfully he had the help of fellow Camino walkers to help him to the plane. Looking forward to him returning for the last few days before Santiago.
April 19, 2025 at 12:06 PM
Camino Day 14. Hornillos to Castrojeriz - 21km. The first real Day of the Meseta. After the initial upward hike it was flat terrain characterised by wind, more wind and even more wind! A few sprinkles of rain but not enough to ruin the day. Took a well earned break from the albergues - nice hotel!
April 19, 2025 at 12:04 PM
Camino Day 13. Burgos to Hornillos -21km. We said good bye to some familiar faces as they returned home to finish their quests at a later date. However, we said hello to new faces with @paulhoskisson.bsky.social Alex, Millie Flynn from Tasmania and Pepijn from the Netherlands walking today!

I am waiting!

Camino Day 12. Today we reached Burgos. Over 1/3 of the way. Hard to believe we started the journey 12 days ago- the days compress: rise, walk, eat, sleep, repeat & it becomes difficult to remember each town. What is consistent is the camaraderie; if you choose you will never be alone on the Camino.
