I have pulled off an astonishing move. I have completely broken an immutable Linux system.
Screenshot of text from Discord from a message I typed: lmao i completely broke my linux install. you would think this would be impossible, given that the base image is immutable. nevertheless! i used rpm-ostree reset to completely remove all packages i layered over top and reset to the base image with no packages installed. this worked, but it fell back to the nouveau driver for nvidia, which for some reason results in every single graphical program crashing at launch. okay, I think, i will open a terminal and fix this. but i can't open anything. not a browser, not a terminal, nothing. okay, i think, i will switch to a VT and log in to a text interface. but no, i ran chsh to zsh earlier, and now /bin/zsh is gone. every attempt to log in as a normal user fails because it can't find the shell and apparently doesn't fall back to bash. okay, i think, well i can still hack around this. i have ssh access set up. i'll ssh -t '/bin/bash -l' and it'll give me a shell that way that i can use. but no, for some reason, permission is always denied if i try that. presumably either the shell environment being broken, or some local config that doesn't work without a package installed. okay, i think, the only option left to me is to boot into grub, and then set a kernel arg for a single-user environment. but i set the computer to use Fast Boot from the BIOS, so keyboard input is not turned on at boot time. i can't interrupt the grub menu or edit the boot config.
