Russia's war in Ukraine as seen from the frontline states

The future of Europe and global democracy

We were neutral when the Soviet Union invaded us.

We were invaded a couple of months after Poland was occupied by Germany and the Soviet Union.

Poland had allies.

Stalin gave the Red Army two weeks to march to Helsinki.

A puppet government was set up in Karelia, ready to take over. It never did.

The verdict is in:

It's a Russian peace plan.

No one thinks it's weird that Russia dictates US foreign policy now.

Russian plan, approved and endorsed by American leadership.

How the mighty have fallen.

There was a more recent migration from Siberia ~4,000 years ago, by which time the northern skiers and skaters had started farming in Southern Finland and Estonia.

The spread of Uralic languages is attributed to this migration. We don't know what language(s) Baltic Finnic peoples spoke before.

Fennoscandians have traces of Amerindian, i.e. indigenous peoples of the Americas, due to early human migration from North Eurasia/Siberia.

Note the absence of French, Italian, Iberian, Balkan, Mediterranean, and Caucasian in the charts below.

Finns are ~70% European hunter-gatherers and ~20% Ancient North Eurasians.

Notice the near absence of Early Neolithic Farmer from Anatolia.

WHG were largely replaced in parts of Europe where farming was viable. They continued hunting and gathering in the north

We're talking about the Medieval or Viking Age.

My population admixture matches are dotted along two major Viking trade routes in Eastern Europe:

1) Daugava-Dnieper

e.g. Belarusian, Ukrainian

2) Onega-Volga

e.g. Erzya, Mari, Moksha.

Other Volga Finns have gone extinct.

This could be Livonian ancestry. It's a now extinct Finnic tribe from Latvia. Finland, Estonia, and Livonia were all part of the Swedish Empire in the 1600s.

It was previously believed that I have no non-Finnish ancestors in at least 700 years, though, so this trace could be older.

As DNA data gets more accurate and representative, new information comes in, which I try to supplement studying archaeological findings and linguistics.

It's a hobby.

I recently learned that I'm 1% Latvian/Estonian. Population matches are found along River Daugava (Väina).
