In the future, AI chatbots may weave ads invisibly into “helpful” advice, steering conversations without you even knowing, argues Daniel Barcay, executive director of the Center for Humane Technology. When the AI we rely on starts steering us for revenue, not our goals, human autonomy is at risk.
Advertising is Coming to AI. It’s Going to Be a Disaster. | TechPolicy.Press
Daniel Barcay sounds the alarm on AI chatbots hiding advertising in conversations—and why this threatens autonomy and demands new rules.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I can't find an image from This Old House...

but you know, I feel good about this. They'll just take wherever I'm staying apart piece by piece.

Decent chance I survive but especially if we're talking season 1 green arrow... someone else is definitely dead.

Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought

Also some cat fur and a lot of yarn
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

The misogynistic fucks in the admin are trying to make it so that grad school certifications in female-dominated professions (nursing, therapy, education) no longer count as “professional degrees” & you can’t get loans to go to grad school.
The DoE has reclassified numerous health professional and other degrees, limiting access to federal student loan programs eligible for the higher OBBBA loan caps from thousands to a few hundred.

As ALWAYS, this is about $$.

We're about to become REALLY "great"...

I am having to prove that I didn't get a more expensive flight by flying on Sunday rather than Saturday from the event I went to. This after I was only allowed a Main coach seat.

I had to create a comparison quote. for a trip I've already taken.
