Final #biggardenbirdwatch tally...
I started with a list of all the birds I've seen in the nearly-a-year since I moved here. The finch numbers are low but they normally turn up around lunchtime. 🪶

I'm halfway through my #biggardenbirdwatch hour. It's been relatively quiet so far but I have clocked that one of my regular magpie pair has started building a nest. She's been back & forth with beakfuls of material.
Rise and shine, it's the final day of #BigGardenBirdwatch!

Remember, you can still take part even if you haven't signed up.

Help us spread the word: share this post, text someone, or tell the whole table over your Sunday roast.

The more data we get, the better 🧑🔬

Going to do my #biggardenbirdwatch later today but was just having a cuppa & watching them anyway, as you do, when a pair of Redwing - I think? - landed in the tree. Have never seen them before! One flew off pretty quickly but this guy stayed for photos. @rspb.bsky.social

🎉 The UK Government has admitted “serious error” in forcing through the Woodlands hyperscale data centre without environmental protections in response to @foxglovelegal.bsky.social & @globalactionplan.bsky.social's legal case. More below

Thanks to everyone who helped make this case possible.
Big news today as UK Government concedes in data centre court case.

“It shouldn’t take us having to drag the Government to court for them to admit their decision to back Big Tech’s polluting data centres was fundamentally wrong," says Foxglove's Rosa Curling: www.foxglove.org.uk/2026/01/22/u...
Press release: UK Government admits "serious error" in forcing through hyperscale data centre without environmental protections
This is the first time the UK government has admitted its decision to force through a new hyperscale data centre was wrong. It's a big win.

“What’s with the clipboard? And the staring?”

“Must be Birdwatch weekend.”

“So they just... watch us?”

“No. They, er, count us.”

“Oh. Humans are weird, huh?”

Breathing in air pollution from wood burning increases your risk of heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes and dementia. Even homes with newer “Ecodesign” wood burners are three times more polluted than those without.

This #CleanAirNight, share the facts about wood burning.

Scrapping BNG wouldn’t just harm wildlife.

It would hit communities too. It puts jobs, investment, green spaces, clean water, healthy soils & local resilience at risk.

And, ironically, it would remove the one thing the public consistently ask for: more nature where they live.

This could be the game changer info from this ep of #Gardenersworld. My new garden is FULL of bindweed. It's heavy clay in poor condition & I need to get some life back into it, so this gives me hope that I can win the battle!
