I'm Hazel, a trans illustrator and visdev artist from the UK. I love playing with texture, colour and darkly ethereal vibes ☀️

Preparing for the next year and thinking of making myself a little curriculum. I really want to knuckle down creatively and become much more regular with what I'm sharing. Not sure it'll be attainable, but at least a schedule will give me the vibe of being back in education again :)

I'm so tired of the artist's profession being treated as something unimportant and easily replaceable. “We're just using genAI for concept art, trust me, it'll be live actors!”
I mean, yeah, artists aren't really people, so we shouldn't pay them or respect what they do... sigh

Using gen ai for text and asset placeholders is not solving a problem; games have been made for decades with regular placeholders. studios using AI this way are just testing the water to see what more they can get away with - which will inevitably mean laying off skilled workers, to make worse games

I think composition and a sense of interesting perspective is one of the weaker points of my art (and my writing too now I think about it). Currently studying some art that has great depth to help with a piece I'm working on! Feels great to feel like an art student again :)

Share your knowledge if/when you can. Teaching other people how to do what you do doesn’t lessen your art - it just means more and better art for everyone.

I appreciate when people are willing to tell me about their brushes, how they study, etc… I want to put that back out into the world.
