When my original expensive DVD player died (taking my 'Beyond the Grave' disc with it) I decided to grit my teeth, grab my wallet and upgrade to BluRay. I was astonished to find I could get a player from Argos for the cost of a couple of packets of Silk Cut.

'The Ferryman' was originally a radio talk. In his collection, 'What Became of Jane Austen' , Amis says he thought it would be clear that it was a wind-up but Bruce Montgomery (Edmund Crispin) phoned him after the broadcast to ask the address of the pub he'd stayed at.

I'd like to read a 'Day-In-The-Life' by John Fingleton on his 'mature attitude to risk'
6 am Breakfast. Sausages 2 days past use-by date. Fry well, and at least I didn't move the risk to the bin.
7am set off for work. Don't switch headlights on as battery drain is needless cost that deters driving.
