there is a real love here of terms being very descriptive. for example, a local health clinic is the CLSC DU PLATEAU-MONT-ROYAL of the
CENTRE INTÉGRÉ UNIVERSITAIRE DE SANTÉ ET DE SERVICES SOCIAUX (CIUSSS) DU CENTRE-SUD-DE-L'ÎLE-DE-MONTRÉAL , which looks utterly ridiculous when put on the logo.
"Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal" is packed in over the Quebec logo and flag.

making good progress on this scoop i’ve been carving out of the absolute worst piece of scrap i has kicking around. fun to figure out ways to hold this in place so that i can get the right angles to chisel off large pieces, but now mostly using the knife which is more relaxing work.

i made this very satisfying pizza last night. it could have had maybe even twice the number of black olives on it.
pizza, sliced on a white plate. curls of pepperoni, hot pickled peppers, and a healthy scattering of black olives are across the to. tomato sauce bubbles from between blotches of cheese. something primordial or like a photo of an angsty planet.

was exceedingly depressed walking home from the library today but i make this bowl of noodles to eat out on the fire escape and it helped.

speaking of babies, new video game baby steps is very good. there are wonderful animals. a chick followed me around for fifteen minutes. got jumpscared by habitat 67 earlier and fell off a cliff (landing pictured).

so proud of my beloved ginger plant. a bit of ginger from the store sprouted so i stuck it in water and it grew and then i put it in this pot and now it even has a second shoot coming up. i miss having it in my room, but it likes this living room window much more.

and about half of that was in 2023 alone. this chart (from ciffc.net/statistics) really shows how dramatic it was; the two seasons since look like no big deal next to 2023, but are still among the five worst fire years we've had in the last 40 years.

have been carving this teaspoon rest for my desk which always has a spare teaspoon on it somewhere
rectangular piece of wood with a lite indent carved into it by my goofy looking gouge, which has an oblong egg like handle. the wood fully indented with a teaspoon sitting in it hare-braned wedge set up, two long wedges sandwiched together with two short wedges against my bench pegs. the long wedges are sort of clamping the spoon rest vertical on one side against my bench’s crow’s foot. the spoon rest in its current form, more spoon shaped, with lots of shavings around it and the knife which just nicked my finger, putting an end to the day’s work.

the article says that the judge agreed to release him, not that the judge agreed the charge was excessive.

well ta-dah. it functions. and my saw cuts were very good. pleased.
bench with various pieces of wood on it as well as a folding knife and a hatchet. a notch has been sawn into he side of the bench, and the piece of wood to be removed has cracked and is loose, having been smacked with the back of a hatchet. the block is out! some jaggedness at the inside where i was relying on the hatchet blow to split it out, but the sides look even. now the moth has a piece of wood in it vertically , wedged in place. the wedge side has a very slight angle which lets this work.1

re-profiled my gouge and have carved out some nice little tray bowls. now to shape the outsides.

the other day i enjoyed rigging up this set up on the table i have on the balcony for planing up this slightly grotty street wood before i bring it inside to turn into boxes or something. it doesn’t work that well for planing cuz the tabletop sags slightly, but it sure holds the wood securely.
wow. big mess. wood chips everywhere on the ground. a beaten up table outside with a bunch of wood on it. a long plank is held on its edge between two wedges (wedges between blocks of wood attached to the table with dowels). the plank’s end is up at the small doe’s foot i made a few weeks ago, a triangular gap in a small board that holds it quite securely. a different angle of the last photo. shot from a bit lower. i only intended on adding one of these pictures but my phone added both and so you get to see both.
