Most people, even politicians, struggle to understand that when you isolate a "regime" through economic sanctions and diplomatic means, the people are left with no choice but to rely on them for help. You can’t hurt one without hurting the other.

Like generations of my compatriots, I can now say I've lived through a war. My takeaways: peace is fragile and earned through effort. Remember to cherish it while it lasts and appreciate those who do the dirty jobs to keep your nation safe.

I've learned the hard way that international law through the UN doesn't mean much. It's mostly a waste of humanity's effort and time. If rich, powerful "Global North" states want something, they'll get it, period. The rest is just a distraction.
