In 2018, international artist Guido van Helten was commissioned to complete a mural on the Ardent Mills silos in downtown Mankato by CityArt—a joint venture of Twin Rivers Council for the Arts and the City Center Partnership. His artwork specifically addresses the existing diversity as a source of pride for the Mankato community. The concept was derived from a summary of experiences and discoveries in color and culture as part of the Mahkato Powwow and Education Days in 2018 and 2019. Each silo is 135 feet tall. This mural brings together the shared ideals of community, diversity, inclusion, and participation. In consultation with various Native and non-Native community representatives, the artwork took shape and allows for an open interpretation as the viewer takes in all angles in one of the largest murals completed by the artist to date.

Backyard find, false turkey tails (Stereum ostrea?) growing on chestnut tree trimmings. The description says they are hairy, which you can see, but the gray green part looks almost felted.

False turkey tails grow on a branch. The branch is partially debarked, showing a gray rough bark and a smooth brown cambium. The mushroom bodies grow upwards in a fan shape, with concentric lines of colors: orange and cream on the outer edges, and gray green in a semicircle inside the other bands. The green color comes from algae that grow on the fungal surface in a commensalist relationship. These particular ones are quite small, about one inch across.

A photo of the inside of Manchester Cathedral. I took the photo directly on a mirrored table so it shows the reflection on it's top. The photo shows the grand golden pipe organ with people sat in front. Stone arches are either side. Two people walked past as I took the photo which I have turned upside down to make it arty farty.
