It seemed that a minister had forgotten to include key aspects within an amendment bill, and so ask a select committee to add them back in. However, it was no mistake. Paul Goldsmith had purposefully omitted some disallowed measures from the Crimes Amendment Bill, in order that they could be added back in as an addendum by the Justice Select Committee, in order to dodge the usual rules about what is allowed.

Giving the people who know what works for their communities money, and *not* micromanaging how it's spent makes a huge difference.

This is Alice's friend Sandy Ho, posting. Per Alice's wishes, this message is being shared at the time of her passing. Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin. We need more stories about us and our culture. You all, we all, deserve everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.

I don't have an answer, other than "may be incapable of morality" and "I won't get used to this".

I also don't know whether all or only some whānau with Prader-Willi will be affected.

Understood - I feel a bit helpless when it comes to that side of things.

This matrix helps me know what to seek out, what to request of journalists, and even what to say to others about people who are certainly acting like populists.

Quick ID: when to switch to harm-reduction coverage Treat a figure as "populist" for coverage purposes if both are true: People vs "corrupt elite" framing in their rhetoric; and Broken reciprocity with the media - criticism fuels them; recognition/normalisation matters more than tone; routine attacks on journalists. Signs reciprocity is broken? Tick at least two: negative coverage recycled as proof of bias; "flooding the zone" with claims; coverage volume exceeds electoral support/salience; misuse of the right of reply. *** Why the usual options backfire In the moment, most of us default to one of three: ignore, cover neutrally, cover critically. Each carries predictable risk: Ignore - the claim spreads unchecked somewhere else. Cover neutrally - you create a phoney "debate" and confer status. Cover critically - you still confer status and feed the "media hates us" script. The fix is not less coverage; it's different coverage.

More cleanse, in ultra-relaxed tuxedo form this time.
A tuxedo cat lies on her back in utterly relaxed mode, paws flopped. Her white stripe begins at the nose and goes all the way down chest and belly to knee socks on the hind legs (ankle socks on the forelegs). Her eyes are closed, her tail is an elongated comma instead of the usual tight question mark, and she is lying in a stream of sunlight from a large sliding door. She is well-loved and the only trauma in her short life has been closed doors, particularly the fridge, and the occasional terrifying sight of the bottom of her food bowl.
