I've seen this in this format in a bibliography: New name (formerly published under the name...), then title of the book/article etc...

I came into the hobby in 1992 myself, so don't know what it was like in the 80s. 2nd edition is very different to Rogue Trader, so maybe that was the reason. In the 90s, assuming my recollections are correct, it seemed as though there was quite a good balance between the different GW games.

5th edition Bretonnians were the best in my opinion.

40k was far less popular in this era than it is now, but 2nd edition was a fun game.
