Fascinated and often disappointed by how people make decisions, behavioral economics, data, scientific method, tech skeptic, history, reader of indictments, lover of football played with feet
That’s encouraging but it doesn’t seem to translate to empathy

Great article. I’d like to better understand the training these agents receive. I have the impression it’s like other law enforcement - heavy on military tactics and low on public policy, immigrant rights, people management, Spanish language skills, etc.

This is the country that Trump has decided to align itself with.

A significant % of the US, including the media, has lost or never had the ability to evaluate expertise. Trump is a non-business person’s idea of a successful business person. Elon is a non tech persons’s idea of a tech leader.

The 2nd part is conceptually interesting, but unfortunately to my knowledge there is no reliable evidence that any 1 sick person definitively caused another to get sick. Viral load, asymptomatic state, mode of transmission, health/immunity of the recipient, others who've also come in contact, etc.

Agree that the 1st idea is unfair to kids who have no agency over their ignorant parents' & govt's vax decisions. Maybe we can learn from how 2nd-hand smoke changed norms? If you choose not to vaccinate (or your parents do), you're put in a separate office space, classroom, etc. from the others.

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"
“Occam’s razor”
Both aphorisms apply here.

The fact that none of them are even competent enough to know how abjectly unqualified they are is living proof of the Dunning Kruger effect.

The US is a Kakistocracy indeed.

Agreed. But, there’s a football game, Netflix series, ladies night at the bar, gotta work late, no where to park at the protest, the cops might get aggressive, etc. Besides i already hearted a few posts about how awful trump is on social media.

All these young men hiding their social fears behind misogynist hatred. And the social media companies’ algorithms that promote Tate and company because outrage and bumper sticker claims get more clicks. YouTube, FB, IG and TikTok owners and tech people can go to hell.

Of course the US has indirectly benefitted from ICC prosecutions because the deterrence it places on war criminals, reducing future crimes in the conflict zones US operates. Now that US is so brazenly committing crimes itself, the US instead becomes the poster child for what crimes are acceptable.

How about this alternative headline “ICC demands Trump to stop breaking international law”
